Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh sees Eugene Monroe as the team’s long-term solution at left tackle.
They better be willing to pay him if they want to keep him.
Monroe joined Glenn Clark of 1570 WNST in Baltimore and said, like Michael Bennett with the Seattle Seahawks, that he’s not interested in being “Costco or Walmart” and won’t be entertaining any discounts from the Ravens.
“Everyone in the business should understand, even coaches when they’re going through their deals negotiating contracts, you have to get the absolute best because you put forth your best effort all the time, every single day in this league,” Monroe said. “So there are definitely no discounts, and you have to have you and your family’s best interests at heart in terms of negotiating these deals.”
“It’s interesting, wanting to be here but also knowing there could be possibilities everywhere and just waiting patiently to see how those opportunities may unfold.”
The Ravens traded for Monroe in October in a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Monroe started the final 11 games for the season for Baltimore. General manager Ozzie Newsome said the team is already talking with “several” of their players about contracts and Monroe is likely high on the list.
However, they shouldn’t expect him to come at a clearance price.
