Fred Davis suspended indefinitely

When a report surfaced in January that Washington tight end Fred Davis had been suspended six games for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, no one officially confirmed or denied it, but one league source told PFT that the report was “technically inaccurate.”

Now the team has confirmed that Davis is, in fact, suspended. What was inaccurate is that the suspension is indefinite, not for six games.

Davis is about to become a free agent, so he soon won’t be Washington’s problem anymore. Davis’s suspension begins immediately, and when (and if) he’s reinstated, he’ll need to find some team willing to sign him.

The 28-year-old Davis looked like one of the NFL’s best young tight ends a couple of years ago, but he tore his Achilles tendon in 2012 and was a disappointment in 2013, and his playing time diminished as the season went on. Now he’s looking like an even bigger disappointment off the field than on.
