Dolphins fire Kevin O’Neill, trainer implicated in bullying

The first person to lose his job over bullying in the Dolphins’ locker room is head athletics trainer Kevin O’Neill.

O’Neill was fired today, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

According to the Ted Wells report into the Dolphins bullying case, O’Neill stood by and did nothing while players hurled racial insults at an assistant athletic trainer. The report also says O’Neill was not cooperative with the investigation.

“O’Neill, the head trainer, not only overheard the racist insults, but also sometimes laughed along and never intervened. We did not cover this specific topic in our interview with O’Neill, which was cut short because O’Neill expressed hostility toward our investigation,” the report says.

Originally hired by Jimmy Johnson (who had also been his boss in Dallas), O’Neill spent 18 years with the Dolphins.

I find it amazing how Philbin was blind to all of this…doesn’t make sense at all that he was oblivious to all of this. What the hell kind of locker room are they running down there in clownville?

Good, football is a sacred thing that requires serious people with the appropriate discipline if you want to win.

The same head athletic trainer that weighed in on Culpepper’s knee over Brees’ shoulder, good riddance.

Fire Philbin, he either covered it up or was too dumb to realize what was going on with his team. Either way it is not good.
