Report: Fred Davis arrested for DUI

Fred Davis is having a bad week.

Just a day after being suspended indefinitely by the league for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, Davis has now run into trouble off the field as well. According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, Davis was arrested Thursday and charged with a DUI.

Davis was pulled over in Tysons Corner, Virginia in Fairfax County at 3:45 p.m. ET.

Davis was set to become a free agent next month. Davis said in a statement Wednesday that he was expecting to be able to apply for reinstatement to the league in the fall. With another blemish against his record, that plan may not go as smooth as Davis would have hoped.

Davis caught 48 passes and six touchdowns in 2009 and had 59 catches and three touchdowns in 2011 before an Achilles injury ended his 2012 season early. Davis caught just seven passes in 10 games with the Redskins last season as he approached free agency. With a suspension and DUI for Davis to overcome in addition to diminished production on the field, finding a new job could become a difficult proposition.

This was the guy who was late for practice his first day.

I guess he just never ‘got it’.

The plug has been pulled and the bath water is draining rapidly on this fellow. Sorry to see his potential flowing away. It likely won’t be the last report before next fall that helps sink him farther away from getting back into the NFL.

That’s too bad. His career was really taking off…

  12. dryzzt23 says: Feb 20, 2014 11:59 PM

The kid made a choice: drugs and alcohol are way cooler than being an NFL player and making millions.

Davis is now defined by his CHOICE. This is not an NFL owners fault, or “society’s” fault, nor is it President George W. Bush’s fault.

    It is DAVIS’ fault.

  28. commonsensedude says: Feb 21, 2014 2:33 AM

At this point, I’m more worried about Fred Davis as a person than about anything related to his football career. He probably needs help and I hope he gets it and is able to pull his life together.

  29. pwningpft says: Feb 21, 2014 2:39 AM

Wow, small world. I actually used to bartend in Tyson’s Corner and Fred would come in once or twice a month – never really got crunked though. I know its easy to make fun of him but in reality he really is a cool normal guy. Just needs to get his priorities together cause he does have the talent. Good luck to him but looks like it’ll be an uphill battle to get himself back in good standing, not to mention VA DUI’s are no joke.

  36. beeroncos says: Feb 21, 2014 5:42 AM

If convicted, no contest plea, etc. He should lose his job like any other corporate employee. The NFL works above the law and this needs to stop. Look at the percentage of NFL employees that retain their jobs after being convicted of crimes that you or I would have our careers ruined by. Yet these people not only retain their jobs, but continue to make millions.

hell, some of them end up being tv talent. Looking at you ray Lewis, Michael Irvin and deion sanders. Good job, NFL.

DUI at 3:45 PM? usually these types of arrest occur in the night or early morning. Dude must really have a problem. I have seen quite a few players in all sports work hard to sabotage their career and Davis is approaching the top 10 in that category.
