As offseason rumors go, the one that had the Patriots inquiring about Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald was fascinating.

Especially to Cardinals General Manager Steve Keim.

When Keim was asked about the report Thursday, he said it came as news to him.

“I was trying to find someone to fire,” Keim said. “Because they never called me.”

Since then, the Cardinals restructured Fitzgerald’s deal, giving them another $9.4 million worth of cap space now.

Of course, that money has to be accounted for at some point, so Fitzgerald’s future will have to be addressed sooner rather than later, at which point someone might actually call.
