Veteran defensive back Charles Woodson definitely wants to play this season.

But he has enough self-awareness to know it won’t be in Green Bay.

Woodson told Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin.com via iMessage that he didn’t see a return to the Packers in the cards.

I don’t think that’s going to happen,” Woodson said. “I definitely plan on playing. But I think the Packers already have plenty of safeties. LOL.”

Woodson may be laughing, but the Raiders probably are serious about giving him another chance. Coach Dennis Allen said last week at the Scouting Combine he thought the 37-year-old had plenty left.

“I definitely think he’s got something left in the tank,” Allen said. “Obviously, when you get to that age, you never know when the tank’s going to empty out. I felt like he brought a lot to the table for our football team this past season. I think he’s a guy we’d like to hopefully bring back. There’s a business side to anything that you do, but I thought from a leadership perspective and really from a playing perspective, I thought he brought a lot to the table.”

Woodson bounced back with a solid year, starting every game for the Raiders. And while he might not be an OMG player any longer, he can certainly help a team that’s still trying to build.
