Report: No offer from Dolphins to Paul Soliai yet

With Randy Starks and Paul Soliai set to become free agents next month, the Dolphins have some decisions to make about how to move forward on the defensive line.

If they’ve made one about how much they’re willing to pay Soliai, they’ve kept it to themselves. As of now, Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reports that the team hasn’t made an offer to retain Soliai.

If the Dolphins don’t lock Soliai up before the March 11 start of free agency, he shouldn’t have much difficulty finding other suitors. Beasley reports Soliai generated a lot of “unofficial interest” during the combine and Armando Salguero of the Herald adds that two teams have shown “quite serious” interest (however unofficial it must remain until the 72-hour window to negotiate with other teams opens on March 8) in adding Soliai to their defensive line.

Soliai has spent his entire seven-year career in Miami and the franchise tag could be a possibility to keep him from sampling life with another team. It may be needed to keep cornerback Brent Grimes in the fold, however, and that would appear to increase the likelihood that Soliai will be moving on next month.
