Reports: 49ers safety Craig Dahl takes salary cut

Craig Dahl AP

The 49ers have reportedly created some salary cap space by cutting Craig Dahl’s base salary by $525,000.

According to NinersNation.com, Dahl’s 2014 salary has been reduced from $1.35 million to $825,000.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports Dahl’s salary cap number has been lowered from $1.883 million to $1.283 million. Dahl has been guaranteed $365,000 in salary, and he can make back $175,000 in game-to-game roster bonuses, Maiocco reported.

The 28-year-old Dahl notched 13 tackles in a reserve role for San Francisco in 2013. He appeared in all 16 regular season games. He has made 42 regular season career starts since entering the NFL in 2007 with the Giants.

Jim Harbaugh wants to bring some knuckles to Trent Baalke’s dome.

With the current trend and thinking that the draft is “deep” and the market is such that good starting players area available in almost every spot, except for QB……this is the right move for him. He knows if he is cut that he may not find another team to pick him up for any more money so “bird in the hand” is the smart move.

More of these types of re-negotiations for many of the teams pushing up against this and next years cap is sure to follow.

It’s going to be hard to bring in a new GM with Harbs wanting all the power. You might as well buy out Baalke’s contract and let Jim run the show. He got you guys in the NFCC three years in a row with a trip to the big game. Pay the man.

Why are they even paying him 1.2 million when they are so pressed for cap room. I like Dahl as a reserve player but only for a vet min of 800k a year. They should draft a safety in the third or fourth and let him learn for a few years as a backup

Not sure if it was Harbs that got them to the NFCC three years in a row…
That team was built before he got there for the most part.

Niners don’t seem to like paying for talent.
