Patriots coach Bill Belichick already has hired one of his good friends in former Browns G.M. Michael Lombardi. Belichick could now be adding another of his good friends.

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe recently reduced to writing a rumor that has been making the rounds ever since the Buccaneers fired coach Greg Schiano. Schiano, who reportedly dined with Belichick on Thursday night at the Scouting Combine, could be hired by the Patriots.

It makes too much sense to not happen, especially in light of the extent to which Belichick reportedly lobbied the Browns to hire Schiano as the team’s next head coach. Schiano needs a job, and the Patriots still need a linebackers coach to replace Pepper Johnson.
