Report: Aaron Hernandez attacks another inmate in jail

Hernandez AP

The fairly significant legal portfolio of former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez could be growing by a case.  Or two.

According to TMZ, Hernandez attacked another inmate in the Bristol County Jail on Tuesday.  Per the report, Hernandez “beat the guy up pretty good.”  (Rocky Balboa apparently was reporting from the scene.)

Hernandez normally remains apart from other inmates, ostensibly for his own protection.  It was the other inmate who needed the protection.

TMZ explains that the other inmate had been jawing all day with Hernandez.  And then, coincidentally, the same inmate who was jawing with Hernandez was in a hallway where Hernandez happened to be walking.

It’s funny how thing like that sometimes work out.

Jail officials have not yet confirmed the reported attack by Hernandez, who is imprisoned without bail in connection with the alleged murder of Odin Lloyd.

  22. keltictim says: Feb 25, 2014 6:05 PM

Hmmm. Hernandez is a pretty big dude. I did a medium bid and it’s true trying to take down a big guy is the quickest way to earn respect, but there’s a big difference between a big dude and a NFL caliber athlete. Speed and size? Yes you can have my lunch tray. I will find a shiv someday but for now enjoy your seconds.

I was a Correctional Officer for 14 years and I use to tell inmates who ran their mouths at other inmates who couldn’t get to them that other inmates can always get to them sooner or later. That’s because sooner or later these inmates are going to cross paths in the facility out side of the bars or their assigned loction. There is usually only officer escorting each inmate and f the inmate just goes crazy its difficult to get them off of the victim. Being on protective custoday only means you are protected from general population. It doesn’t mean you are protected from other PC inmates you talk crap too.

  107. uglydingo says: Feb 25, 2014 9:10 PM

Aaron Hernandez’ status and respect amongst inmates just just jumped 66%. He can handle himself and is not afraid. Give him a little time and he could excel in this environment.
He put up with Tom Brady’s petulant verbal abuse for years and was not allowed to fight back. In comparison this is easy.

I’m not one to make excuses for people’s behavior, especially not someone who is all but convicted of murder, but I find the escalation in his aggressive and violent behavior telling. I wonder if anyone has considered whether or not he took one too many hits playing ball and may have Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or something similar. We’re seeing it in a lot of combat vets who have been in IED attacks etc. where their personalities change, they become increasingly aggressive and violent and so on. Just a thought. Hernandez is clearly where he belongs, and even people with TBI are competent and have the capacity to make choices, but I wonder if there’s not something physiological going on with this guy. Add to that the prison “dog eat dog” culture and he’s likely to rack up a few more charges as the bravest of the dumbest keep trying to test this guy.
