Cornerback Corey Webster had a miserable 2013 season as injuries accelerated the decline he showed during the 2012 season, which led former Giant player and current Giant radio analyst Carl Banks to accuse him of stealing money from the team and quitting on his teammates.
There was some thought that Webster’s quick decline might foreshadow a decision to hang up the cleats, but it appears the cornerback will be trying to bounce back on the field. Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that Webster, who will be a free agent after his contract voided, plans to play in 2014.
It wasn’t long ago that Webster was the best cornerback on the Giants and used his size effectively against top receivers on other teams. His play slipped two years ago, though, and he lost his starting job last year before groin and ankle injuries ended his season after just four games.
That recent history won’t do him much good if he’s hoping to land much more than the veteran’s minimum for next season. Webster’s history would likely get him a look at that price, but he’ll have to prove he can still play to get anything beyond that.
