The Giants may be looking to make changes at guard this offseason, but Chris Snee hopes that doesn’t mean a complete changing of the guard.
Veteran Chris Snee told Paul Schwartz of the New York Post that he wanted to play for the Giants again this year, but would likely retire if they didn’t want him.
“If there was no interest from their point of view I’d probably say thanks for everything and call it a career,’’ Snee said. “At this point it’s not about money for me. I’m a Giant, I couldn’t imagine myself playing for any other organization.’’
That’s not exactly the way to give yourself leverage, but Snee also has the benefit of being the coach’s son-in-law, so the two sides know where they stand.
The 32-year-old Snee only played three games last year (after missing just one in eight years), but said he feels well enough to contribute after hip and elbow surgeries.
“If I didn’t feel good I would have no decision to make,’’ Snee said. “I think it came down to the fact I feel really good. Am I the guy who was controlling the line of scrimmage four years ago? No, but do I think I can play at a high level and compare well to most of the guards in the league? Absolutely.
“I think I would regret not giving it my all, that’s what I’ve always done for this organization, give it everything I have. That’s what I’ll do, I’ll try to do that for one more year.’’
He knows his $7.2 million base salary isn’t coming his way, but admits that he’s willing the restructure to stay, if the Giants want him back.
