With Mike Mitchell set to become a free agent in March, the Carolina Panthers are likely going to be looking for help at the safety position this offseason.

They’ve elected to bring back a familiar face for some added depth in the interim.

According to Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer, the team has re-signed safety Anderson Russell.

Russell played three games for Carolina in 2012 and was in training camp with the team last fall. He was waived/injured by the team during final cuts in August. He did not play for another team in 2013.

Russell also appeared in three games with the Miami Dolphins in 2012 and two games with the Washington Redskins in 2010.
