Report: Patriots have “floated” Danny Amendola’s name in trade discussions

Could Danny Amendola be one-and-done in New England?

According to Dan Pompei of Bleacher Report, who cited unnamed “NFL teams,” the Patriots have brought up the name of Amendola in trade discussions less than a year after signing the wide receiver as a free agent.

Also, Pompei reports that there is some “speculation” Amendola could be released if he is not dealt.

The 28-year-old Amendola caught 54 passes for 633 yards and two TDs in 12 games for New England in 2013. He played his first four seasons with St. Louis (2009-2012).

Amendola dealt with a groin injury in his first season with the Patriots, and he also suffered a concussion. He has missed a combined nine regular season games in the last two seasons. Moreover, he was limited to just one game in 2011.

Nevertheless, it would be a major surprise if he lasted just one season with the Patriots, given the club’s investment. However, New England has never been lacking for decisiveness.

  1. I’m surprised how under-used he was last year when he was (relatively) healthy in the second half of the season.

He was wide open several times in the AFC Championship game yet Brady never even looked his way

  2. You cant cut him, his cap hit will be higher, nobody will trade for him….. He has a year for show something or he is done in 2015.

Redskins ZERO superbowls since logicalvoice was born.

  3. Just keep passing along the most ridiculous trade rumors from anonymous sources.

  4. Really hope this would signal a serious attempt to retain Edelman. Free agency/draft are always so frustrating for this pats fan

  5. I floated something in the crapper this morning that should draw about as much trade interest.

  6. Amendola is kind of like Danario Alexander: Loads of talent, but he can’t stay healthy. It’d be in bad form for Kraft to talk about not re-signing Welker only to give up on his intended replacement immediately afterward.

  7. …..and here’s how many teams have been to more Super Bowl’s since Spygate:

Wouldn’t trade being a Pats fan in the Brady/Belichick era for being a fan of any other team. None better during last 12 years! One more SB title for Brady puts him on par with Montana as greatest QB ever. Belichick will be greatest coach of all time. Amazing and nearly unprecedented run!

  8. Washington should pick him up. They may not have an NFL quarterback to throw to him but at least they’d have someone named Danny that knew something about football.

  9. The Vikings couldn’t win even if they cheated. They have NEVER won a Super Bowl and NEVER will.

  10. Why are Redskin and Viking fans so enthralled with the team with the most wins, playoff and regular season, in the NFL over the last 20 years? Oh yeah-hehehe…..

  11. Amendola was on pace to lead the league in receptions in 2012 with Sam Bradford until he got hurt.

Ochocinco, Brandon Lloyd, and now Danny Anendolla all had down years when playing with Tom when in the previous years they were very productive WR’s with lesser teams. Throw in so many of their young WRs dont pan out either, I can’t figure out what the problem is. They have brought in rookies and proven veterans and they still seem to struggle. I dont get how this is now becomming fairly common in that offense.

  12. I wish Al Davis were still alive. You could always count on him to make some great trades with Belichick.

  13. Amendola wasn’t a factor this year because Edelman was. You don’t fix something that isn’t broken. If they lose Edelman to free agency Amendola will have that bigger role. Amendola and Edelman are looked at as relatively the same player by the Pats so if they can get value for Danny through trade and resign Edelman then it’s a win-win. If Edelman walks then they still have Danny

  14. let me add a voice of reason here.

he got banged up early and often and Brady got real comfy with Julian.

don’t kid yourself Amendola still has real value otherwise he wouldn’t be in the trade conversations at all.

would they part ways with him as part of a package for Fitzgerald or and upper echelon player. absolutely! but I doubt he gets cut loose. if he is healthy, like Gronk, he can catch and he is sudden. put Gronk out there with Amendola and there will be hell to pay.

  15. Here is a list of teams that could dominate the NFC East: 28, please throw darts at list, do not worry if you hit the Browns, results will not vary.

Here is a list of teams that have as many Super Bowl wins as they do victories over the Patriots in Super Bowl games: THE NEW YORK GIANTS B!TCH35

  16. I know it’s a lot to ask but I’d really like to see what Amendola can do with Brady for a full healthy year. I don’t want to see him cut

  17. Unless theres a flag football leauge somewhere no ones going to touch him. Talent is there but he’s got the body of a 80 year old woman.

  18. Amendola gave us next to nothing when we gave him more dough than Welker got in Denver.
Cut/trade Amendola, sign Nicks and Emmanuel Sanders, and draft a tight end it’s time to go all-in and actually give Brady some weapons for his last few years.
Also, I think Edelman would be great with the Panthers if he leaves…just sayin

  19. Why do the pats always make this complicated

    The salary cap.

They don’t have enough cap space for Edelman as it is right now, and carrying Amendola dead cap money next year makes no sense.

  20. It also would not hurt to get a QB who can throw a completion of more than 10 yards. Brady only missed 3 TD’s in the Denver game. #bradyDone

  21. He’s too damaged to be traded.

Can u trade his boy McDaniels too?

McDaniels is a team killer. No joke. Why was Brandon Lloyd, Tim Tebow, and spencer Larsen in town?

  22. … I will be decisive …The Patriots won’t see another Super Bowl in YOUR Lifetime !!! … You poor Bandwagon pukes STILL living in the PAST … IT is OVER !!! … I will Love that ride down EMPTY Route 1 Sunday Afternoons while you are drinking away Memory Lane !!! … HAHAHAHAHAHA !!! …

  23. Pats sign Nicks and Sanders? Nicks was almost as pitiful as Amendola this year….and where’s the $$$$ going to come from?

  24. Bandwagon Patriot fans? Sold out for 21 straight years-Packers had to beg fans to buy tickets for a playoff game….HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

————————————————–There’s 32 teams in a league with a hard salary cap that levels the playing field. There’s only one SB winner a year. On average every team is suppose to only win a SB once every 32 years. If you can’t do the math that means fans should really only expect 2 SB championships in a lifetime. Reality is Pats fans have already experienced more than their share of SB wins in a lifetime.

  26. I have to hand it to Amendola, I believe he played hurt all year. Had it not been for his injury history and the intense media scrutiny, he would’ve taken more time off. He has talent but he can’t be relied on for a full season.

I hope the Pats have an out like they did with Stallworth in 2008.

If so, the Pats should dump him and grab some wideouts in FA. There’s a few big bodied WR’s that would fit in nicely.

And Thompkins and Dobson are going to take a major leap next season.

  27. To the ” BIG WII ” … ONLY Trailer Park Trash is coming from YOUR Foxboro !!! … YOU are a Typical Bandwagon / Fair Weather Fan who enjoys your Christmas Tree Shop in Patriots Place !!! … Green Bay 35 , New England 21 … ALWAYS !!! … GO PACK GO !!! …

  28. No way Danny boy gets traded, his cap hit is way to high, they should look at trading Ridley. At least get a third round pick back for him
