Report: Washington has yet to make Orakpo an “official offer”

With two years of unfair cap penalties set to expire, the Washington Redskins have been trying to re-sign some of their defensive players who would otherwise become free agents.

But it’s one thing to work out new deals with DeAngelo Hall and Chris Baker.  It’s quite another to finalize a new contract with Brian Orakpo.

According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the team had yet to make an “official offer” to Orakpo as of Friday afternoon.

It’s not clear what that means.  “Official offers” often aren’t made in negotiations like this.  Agents and teams speak in term of concepts and ranges and hypotheticals until it appears that the time has come to get serious.

For the team, that time could be now.  Otherwise, the franchise tag of $13.116 million could be coming.

Absent the franchise tag or the little-used transition tag (or a long-term deal), Orakpo will become a free agent on March 11.

I’m not worried. Orakpo has an inflated opinion of himself. We can find someone else if he wants more than $11MM per yr.

Come to green bay, we have the worst linebackers in the history of the nfl.

Cue vikes trolls that are taking trash after a 5-11 season.
Orakpo is better then anyone on Minnesota’s defense.

They were 3-13 with him. They can easily go 3-13 without him. Let him walk.

A healthy Orakpo is a beast. Washington is going to have to start somewhere on that defense and build around it. He’s the type you might want to keep around.

Come to Buffalo. We should have taken you instead of Maybin anyway.

What land are you living in where you can replace 10+ sack guys for less than 11 million?

“With two years of unfair cap penalties set to expire,”

You are correct…the cap penalties were unfair.

I’d rather pay Orakpo than Kruger…

Up I 95 to philly he goes. I bet he would love to hit RG3 or whoever is in for him while he is hurt.

Adios Orakpo! You were quite the disappointment coming out of Texas. It took you 3 years to register a sack within the NFC EAST and your only multi sack game was against Jamarcus Russell. Ryan Kerrigan is the new face of the Redskins defense

That D is gonna get shredded again, can’t wait to see the eagles smash them.

“That D is gonna get shredded again, can’t wait to see the eagles smash them.”

Yep, and on your way to accomplishing nothing for the 50th year in a row.

Of course we could find someone else, but Orakpo is rated the No. 1 OLB available…so, if we did get someone else, it would be downgrade.

I just don’t get Vikings fans talking trash. Have they done anything in the past 40 years? I know the skins won a Superbowl in their stadium.

skins win about 5 games a year with him. Who cares?

  21. syndersupport says: Mar 1, 2014 5:34 PM

Hate to see him leave… But Rob Jackson is waiting patiently behind him…. I think orakpo might get tagged for 1 year to prove he can play all 16 games. Not worth the $$$ for a part time pro bowler

Orapko was productive last season. He won’t go hungry this year.
