The deadline for using franchise tags has passed, which means that it is now full speed ahead for the start of free agency.

On Monday’s edition of Pro Football Talk on NBCSN, we’ll be discussing the four franchise tags and two transition tags that were used on Monday as well as what those decisions mean for the free agency landscape overall. We’ll preview all the biggest names and the biggest needs as we continue to set the stage for next week’s feeding frenzy.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer will also be on the program. His team didn’t use a tag on Monday, but they have plenty of work to do once free agency opens up to make sure that the 2014 season goes better than the 2013 edition. One key spot is quarterback, so we’ll see what Zimmer has to say on that front.

It all gets going at 5:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

  1. The best coach in the entire NFL.

This is why everyone is so jealous of the Vikings organization.

We hire the classiest, best coaches that other teams miss on.

Remember this later on, Mike Zimmer will be hoisting a Lombardi Trophy within the next 3 years.

  2. Zimmer will make the Vikings PASS Defense (31st in NFL) much better… but… that offense is going nowhere.

  3. @doctorrustbelt

Our Pass Offense was 13th in the NFL with Christian Ponder at the helm.

Oh…and we also have one of the best Running Backs of all time running for us.

I think our offense will be just fine.

  4. Mike Zimmer will be fired in two years.

Not even the great Vince Lombardi could turn that wretched Vikings franchise into something respectable.

  5. So… your offense will be just fine?!?

    2013 = 27th in Passing tds
    2013 = 23rd in Passing yards

Yeah… your offense will be just fine in this modern pass happy NFL.

    Good luck.

  6. You have the Vikings trying to emulate the Packers by signing ex-players who were jettisoned and you have poet and his alias vikingsbest emulating logicalvoice of all people. What a winning combination.

  7. Guys, again you don’t want to hear this but the Vikings WILL sign Josh Freeman and he will be starting. Turner loves strong arms and the guy has a cannon. He wont be a popular choice but Norv did turn some mediocre QB’s in Cleveland into half way decent ones. With the QB problem solved (so to say) then they will go draft happy with the Defense.
I am not saying that I agree I am just saying that it is going to happen. Florio deletes every post I make about it so I know it is true!

  8. Hey gbmickey… not all players were jettisoned. U guys were still going after greg last year when we signed him. Most packfans make it sounds like we sign ur practice squad but Your players have played quite well for us. Sharper went to two pro bowls in purple (just as many as with gb but in half the seasons.) Longwell was pretty damn good for us and favre had his best STATISTICAL year as a member of the vikes.

  9. Don’t you seahawks and greenbay trolls got better things to then kome on every vikings thread and bash us about the same old garbage seriously I never understand the hate smh

  10. I like my monicor, and I think the Zimmer can my friends. Oh yes, the Zimmer man can turn this franchise around.

This franchise has been :19 seconds, a miss field goal, a missed tackle and blatant pass interference from advancing to 4 super bowls they easily could’ve won. So our time is due.

Sure, we have that ‘nfl championship’ from ’69 vs the Browns but its not a real championship. Unlike some franchises that need to clamor to 8-9 fake championships just to feel relevant when they’ve only won 3 that matter in the last 47 years.

The Packers endured a first round loss only twice in the last five years, 2009 and 2013. 2010 was the SuperBowl year…hardly a loss. 2011 and 2012 were Divisional Round losses. And the Packers OWN THE VIKINGS. You left that part out.

  12. The Vikings fans still are reeling from the massive celebration last year for making the playoffs, oh by the way, who did you lose to anyway?

  13. Frasier28/7 nailed it. On the other side of the St. Croix, they say that we have never been NFL champions. But we WERE in ’69. And they claim those pre-Super Bowl NFL titles that THEY won like they DO matter.
Typical ‘sconies with their shots of paint thinner.
(sorry for the caps. I’d rather use italics if there was the option).

I seem to not be able to post at all, is this the reason??

  15. Packer vs. Vikings all time:

    Packers lead series 55-49-2
Packers lead in points – 2,259 to 2,028
    Packer Championships – 13
    Viking Championships – 0

Facts are stubborn things my purple friends.

  16. Notice how Green Bay reeks of urine and tears from such a depressed older population? The only jobs there are at the JC Penny’s second floor, devoted to selling packer merchandise…

  17. Packer pre super bowl championships – 9
Packer super bowl championships – 4
    Total – 13

Viking pre superbowl championships – 0
    Viking superbowl championships – 0
    Total – 0

    Facts checked. See above.

  18. Well you’re a pretty bad fact checker because they won the nfl championship in 1969, 27-7 over the browns…

Like I said, I’m sure its a blow to realize that all the times you’ve said the vikings have 0 championships has been a complete lie… Cheer up tho, at least its not as cold over there by the bay as it is here in the Twin Cities. Have a lovely day

  19. Here is another fact, the Vikings have lost 7 out of the last 9 games they played the Packers. Including a home game last year where the Packers never even had to punt.
