The deadline for using franchise tags has passed, which means that it is now full speed ahead for the start of free agency.

On Monday’s edition of Pro Football Talk on NBCSN, we’ll be discussing the four franchise tags and two transition tags that were used on Monday as well as what those decisions mean for the free agency landscape overall. We’ll preview all the biggest names and the biggest needs as we continue to set the stage for next week’s feeding frenzy.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer will also be on the program. His team didn’t use a tag on Monday, but they have plenty of work to do once free agency opens up to make sure that the 2014 season goes better than the 2013 edition. One key spot is quarterback, so we’ll see what Zimmer has to say on that front.

It all gets going at 5:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

Why in the world did this team not go after Alex Smith last year?

  2. theclink12 says: Mar 3, 2014 5:10 PM

    pftpoet in 5…4…3…2…1….

  3. thepftpoet says: Mar 3, 2014 5:15 PM

The best coach in the entire NFL.

This is why everyone is so jealous of the Vikings organization.

We hire the classiest, best coaches that other teams miss on.

Remember this later on, Mike Zimmer will be hoisting a Lombardi Trophy within the next 3 years.

  4. doctorrustbelt says: Mar 3, 2014 5:19 PM

Zimmer will make the Vikings PASS Defense (31st in NFL) much better… but… that offense is going nowhere.

  5. thepftpoet says: Mar 3, 2014 5:23 PM

    @doctorrustbelt

Our Pass Offense was 13th in the NFL with Christian Ponder at the helm.

Oh…and we also have one of the best Running Backs of all time running for us.

I think our offense will be just fine.

  6. f1restarter says: Mar 3, 2014 5:23 PM

Mike Zimmer will be fired in two years.

Not even the great Vince Lombardi could turn that wretched Vikings franchise into something respectable.

  7. 4allintensivepurposes says: Mar 3, 2014 5:25 PM

As a fan of Rosecea, I will tune in for this.

  8. doctorrustbelt says: Mar 3, 2014 5:45 PM

So… your offense will be just fine?!?

    2013 = 27th in Passing tds
    2013 = 23rd in Passing yards

Yeah… your offense will be just fine in this modern pass happy NFL.

    Good luck.

  9. squishman says: Mar 3, 2014 6:14 PM

Yes, our offense will be just fine. In case you weren’t paying attention, Mike Zimmer hired Norv Turner to run it.

  10. freeigwebuike says: Mar 3, 2014 6:15 PM

Just heard the interview, setting up expectations that ponder might be the guy. Ugh.

  11. gbmickey says: Mar 3, 2014 6:49 PM

You have the Vikings trying to emulate the Packers by signing ex-players who were jettisoned and you have poet and his alias vikingsbest emulating logicalvoice of all people. What a winning combination.

  12. zinjaboy says: Mar 3, 2014 7:04 PM

Poet, do you even try to be accurate? 13th? Your only off by 100%

  13. jazz11001 says: Mar 3, 2014 7:08 PM

Guys, again you don’t want to hear this but the Vikings WILL sign Josh Freeman and he will be starting. Turner loves strong arms and the guy has a cannon. He wont be a popular choice but Norv did turn some mediocre QB’s in Cleveland into half way decent ones. With the QB problem solved (so to say) then they will go draft happy with the Defense.
I am not saying that I agree I am just saying that it is going to happen. Florio deletes every post I make about it so I know it is true!

  14. backdapack4evr says: Mar 3, 2014 7:12 PM

First order of business is to sign Freeman!!!
    Lol

  15. backdapack4evr says: Mar 3, 2014 7:14 PM

We can hear the Viking clown music all the way in Milwaukee!!
    Nice shoes!!
    Lol

  16. jermainewiggins says: Mar 3, 2014 7:15 PM

Hey gbmickey… not all players were jettisoned. U guys were still going after greg last year when we signed him. Most packfans make it sounds like we sign ur practice squad but Your players have played quite well for us. Sharper went to two pro bowls in purple (just as many as with gb but in half the seasons.) Longwell was pretty damn good for us and favre had his best STATISTICAL year as a member of the vikes.

  17. ariani1985 says: Mar 3, 2014 7:21 PM

Notice that green bay has lost in the first round of the nfl playoffs for the past 5 years!

  18. khmer379 says: Mar 3, 2014 7:28 PM

Don’t you seahawks and greenbay trolls got better things to then kome on every vikings thread and bash us about the same old garbage seriously I never understand the hate smh

  19. Frazier28/7 says: Mar 3, 2014 8:26 PM

I like my monicor, and I think the Zimmer can my friends. Oh yes, the Zimmer man can turn this franchise around.

This franchise has been :19 seconds, a miss field goal, a missed tackle and blatant pass interference from advancing to 4 super bowls they easily could’ve won. So our time is due.

Sure, we have that ‘nfl championship’ from ’69 vs the Browns but its not a real championship. Unlike some franchises that need to clamor to 8-9 fake championships just to feel relevant when they’ve only won 3 that matter in the last 47 years.

  20. beerndrums says: Mar 3, 2014 8:28 PM

The Vikings will be fighting for last place in their division

  21. ariani1985 says: Mar 3, 2014 8:40 PM

Notice that green bay has never beaten the vikes when games are decided by 2 points or less under 2 minutes.

    #whoisurdaddy

  22. golforepar says: Mar 3, 2014 8:41 PM

Zimmer has a realistic goal! Not take 5th place in the division! The Vikes will be picking in the top 10 in next years draft too!

The Packers endured a first round loss only twice in the last five years, 2009 and 2013. 2010 was the SuperBowl year…hardly a loss. 2011 and 2012 were Divisional Round losses. And the Packers OWN THE VIKINGS. You left that part out.

  24. ariani1985 says: Mar 3, 2014 9:04 PM

Notice that green bay has finished last in defense for 3 straight years.

  25. ariani1985 says: Mar 3, 2014 9:32 PM

Notice every time I have been to the urine infested lambeau field the vikes have never lost!

  26. golforepar says: Mar 3, 2014 9:45 PM

The Vikings fans still are reeling from the massive celebration last year for making the playoffs, oh by the way, who did you lose to anyway?

  27. kidsamoa260 says: Mar 3, 2014 9:47 PM

Zimmer can’t carry Pete Carroll’s jock strap!

  28. squishman says: Mar 3, 2014 9:48 PM

Frasier28/7 nailed it. On the other side of the St. Croix, they say that we have never been NFL champions. But we WERE in ’69. And they claim those pre-Super Bowl NFL titles that THEY won like they DO matter.
Typical ‘sconies with their shots of paint thinner.
(sorry for the caps. I’d rather use italics if there was the option).

  29. ariani1985 says: Mar 3, 2014 9:54 PM

Notice that every time a packer fan pays a bill I get a cut!

  30. WI has no economy says: Mar 3, 2014 10:01 PM

Notice “Wisconsin” still has no economy, it has been obvious for many years that “Wisconsin” is the armpit of the Great State is Minnesota..

  31. jermainewiggins says: Mar 3, 2014 10:45 PM

Idk if pete carroll wears a jock strap while hes coaching thatd be weird.

I seem to not be able to post at all, is this the reason??

  33. dwhcic says: Mar 3, 2014 11:04 PM

Viking packer (intentionally not capitalized) threads are the best.

  34. inbredcheesehead says: Mar 4, 2014 1:22 AM

vikings think you so good packers are gods and will win everything packers are super good at winning we better than everything

  35. zinjaboy says: Mar 4, 2014 8:30 AM

    Packer vs. Vikings all time:

    Packers lead series 55-49-2
Packers lead in points – 2,259 to 2,028
    Packer Championships – 13
    Viking Championships – 0

Facts are stubborn things my purple friends.

  36. vikesfansteve says: Mar 4, 2014 8:45 AM

Lets hope Zimmer brings a trophy!

  37. stoptrippn says: Mar 4, 2014 9:59 AM

Zimmer is a liar like Pete carroll

  38. purpleforroyaltygreenandgoldforbugars says: Mar 4, 2014 10:47 AM

If green bay fans want to count their meaningless pre superbowl “championships” than please be informed to count ours in 1969 too. I realize that’s a blow to your lack of pro football history, but check the facts.

  39. purplehaze28 says: Mar 4, 2014 11:23 AM

Notice how Green Bay reeks of urine and tears from such a depressed older population? The only jobs there are at the JC Penny’s second floor, devoted to selling packer merchandise…

  40. purplehaze28 says: Mar 4, 2014 11:26 AM

Notice how Sconies get duped into buying a worthless piece of paper, and get duped into electing a governor with no college degree???

  41. cursedvikings1998 says: Mar 4, 2014 12:14 PM

The Vikings are cursed forever because they started the Bounty system back in the 80′s and then handed it down to the rest of the league. #vikingsarecursed.

  42. zinjaboy says: Mar 4, 2014 12:21 PM

Packer pre super bowl championships – 9
Packer super bowl championships – 4
    Total – 13

Viking pre superbowl championships – 0
    Viking superbowl championships – 0
    Total – 0

    Facts checked. See above.

  43. jgat12 says: Mar 4, 2014 2:52 PM

Well you’re a pretty bad fact checker because they won the nfl championship in 1969, 27-7 over the browns…

Like I said, I’m sure its a blow to realize that all the times you’ve said the vikings have 0 championships has been a complete lie… Cheer up tho, at least its not as cold over there by the bay as it is here in the Twin Cities. Have a lovely day

  44. whatjusthapped says: Mar 4, 2014 5:48 PM

Here is another fact, the Vikings have lost 7 out of the last 9 games they played the Packers. Including a home game last year where the Packers never even had to punt.
