Victor Cruz: I do see myself as a Randall Cobb-type

Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo came to the team from the Packers, whose offense featured wide receiver Randall Cobb in a featured role over the past two seasons.

Cobb lined up all over the place on offense for Green Bay and his duties have included the occasional running play out of the backfield. McAdoo hasn’t said much about the Giants offense other than that it will be built around the strengths of quarterback Eli Manning, but wide receiver Victor Cruz let it be known that he’s happy to play a version of Cobb’s role.

“I do see myself as a Randall Cobb,” Cruz said, via Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News. “Hopefully I can sneak in that backfield for a couple plays. I don’t know how effective that will be. But we’ll definitely see where it takes us. But we’ll see. I’m excited to be all over the field this year.”

Cruz has one carry for three yards over his career with the Giants.

Cruz wasn’t doing anything at the end of the season because of a knee injury that required a scope, but the receiver said rehab is going well. He’s resumed weight training and hopes to start running routes before the month is out. When and if he’ll start practicing handoffs remains to be seen.
