B.C. Lions sign quarterback John Beck

The fourth quarterback selected in the 2007 NFL Draft has signed on with a CFL club.

John Beck, whom the Dolphins took with the No. 40 overall pick in 2007, has joined the British Columbia Lions, the team announced Tuesday.

Beck was most recently on an NFL roster with the Houston Texans in 2012. He also had a workout with the Bills in August as Buffalo searched for QB depth because of injuries.

Beck, 32, has made seven NFL regular season starts: four with Miami in 2007, and three with Washington in 2011.

Beck could compete for a reserve role with B.C. The club has also added former LSU quarterback Jarrett Lee to its roster.

JaMarcus Russell (No. 1, Oakland), Brady Quinn (No. 22, Cleveland) and Kevin Kolb (No. 36, Philadelphia) were the quarterbacks selected ahead of Beck in 2007.

Wow, that QB draft class year will go down in history as the second worst of all time – behind only 2010!

  3. bigbosscrispy says: Mar 4, 2014 10:02 PM

Wow what a bad QB class that was…

    Bad draft for QBs

Not quite as good as the guys from the 1983 class….

  6. Ferdinand says: Mar 4, 2014 10:20 PM

Wow. Talk about a lackluster QB class.

  7. theheyseed says: Mar 4, 2014 10:24 PM

He had some fans here in DC, the town that loves to root for the QB that is NOT in the game.
Afternoon sports talk should be fun on 980 Wednesday.

Megatron was the greatest player from that draft, while 2014 the greatest player will prove to be another wide receiver, Sammy Watkins.

Dear God, what a horrible year for drafting a QB.

ESPN should do a “30 for 30” on the 2007 draft called “From Jamarcus to Beck,” in which all the GM’s drafting these quarterbacks cry on camera for 60 unbroken minutes.

Nobody cares, he’s just a scrub.

I was actually a little bit nervous when the Browns got Joe Thomas and Quinn in the same round.

I remember ol john, I had high hopes for him. He gets his first start against Buffalo, goes back for his first pass and *phwipp* tosses the ball backwards.

What a WB class in 2007…Calvin Johnson laughs at the QBs.

  20. Ed Bandell says: Mar 5, 2014 1:42 AM

What a horrible class of quarterbacks. Only Kolb really had any success and he’s a back up.

  21. jhorton83 says: Mar 5, 2014 1:45 AM

JaMarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Kevin Kolb, and John Beck. Yeah, I think it’s safe to say at this point that was not a good QB class. Like a bizarro version of the ’83 QB class.

  22. tuberippin says: Mar 5, 2014 2:00 AM

God, what a terrible draft 2007 was for quarterbacks.

I will never, ever forget the feeling of watching my Raiders take JaMarcus #1 over Calvin Johnson that year. Mortifying.

Remeber when Shannahan swore that Beck was going to be his day one starting quarterback?

  32. ziplock10 says: Mar 5, 2014 11:16 AM

Shannahan puts his reputation behind Beck!

  33. drsportsjock says: Mar 5, 2014 1:20 PM

Never won an NFL game, doubt he will win a CFL game. Nice mullet though.

  34. gward90 says: Mar 5, 2014 3:43 PM

JaMarcus had the most potential. It’s really too bad he got lazy and out of shape, he might have been able to get a second chance like Alex Smith. Smith and Russell put up similar numbers in their first few years, but Alex bid his time until a real coach came and got the most out of him.

  35. pattunya says: Mar 7, 2014 1:13 PM

Hows that starting quarterback been working out for ya? lol!

  36. 1bigtex says: Mar 8, 2014 10:46 AM

And somewhere in the Great Beyond, Old Al is sitting next to an overhead projector telling everyone within earshot about how Jamarcus is still”going to be a great playa”.

As to “potential”, as the late DKR once observed, “Potential means you haven’t done it.”
