Cardinals negotiating with Matt Shaughnessy

The Cardinals had a strong defense last season and they’ve made no bones about their desire to bring linebacker Karlos Dansby back to be part of next year’s unit as well.

Dansby isn’t the only linebacker they’d like to see remain in town. Rich Rosa, the agent for Matt Shaughnessy, told Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic that he’s been talking to the team about a new deal for Shaughnessy.

“They are actively trying to re-sign him,” Rosa said. “He wants to be there, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Shaughnessy played in all 16 games and started 12 in his first season with the Cardinals. He did his best work against the run for the league’s stingiest run defense, which makes it no surprise that they’d like to have him back as part of the effort to remain stout in a tough division.

Shaughnessy’s return would be nice for the Cardinals, but Dansby’s would be more impactful. Somers adds that there’s nothing new to report on that front, however.

Shaughnasty was pretty good in Oaktown, but his style of play fits Arizona even better. Wish him well.

Cardinals, don’t mess this up. You are going to challenge for the NFCW and potentially the SB. Frisco is imploding and starting to get the injury bug. It’s between you and Seattle this year. Draft well and get a running game. That’s how you keep Palmer intact and give Fitz a chance to win a title with you before you lose him in 2015. Goodluck. (Sorry Rams fans. I’m just not sold on you guys. Lots of talent but not many wins for it.)

Both will be Cardinals next year. Both know their best opportunity to produce is in Arizona, in this defense.

Dansby learned his lesson chasing money in Miami, he’s received his big payday, he wants to win now.

We’ll take Veldheer at LT from Oakland too, if they don’t want him.

I thought AD couldn’t draft and the Raiders had no players?

He was another bargain the new regime picked up along with John Abraham and of course, Carlos Dansby. Seemed like the Raiders would have wanted to keep one of their few good players, but I guess that’s why that team’s where they are.

I don’t know much about Matt Shaughnessy… but… Ed Shaughnessy was a great drummer and a good man.
