The Lions added some defensive line depth, bringing in a guy who had passed through before among his many stops.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions signed defensive tackle Corvey Irvin.

He was with them briefly in 2011 but didn’t play in a game. His last stop was in Dallas, as one of the Cowboys’ many injury replacements on the defensive line.

The former Panthers third-round pick has also spent time with the Buccaneers, Jaguars and Bears.

The Lions are looking for depth there, though their top three (Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley and C.J. Mosley), are all back next year. Andre Fluellen is an unrestricted free agent, so Irvin gives them some depth if he doesn’t come back.

  1. Or he could replace Mosely who was useless last year and has never been a good player. He’s overpaid and they could save a couple of bucks by getting rid of him. He is the typical type of player we sign which are journeyman players that can’t help us win but we have some millions for them. At least Irvin is a little bit cheaper, or at least I hope he is you never know what the Lions will pay some people. We are amongst the worst teams in the league that pass out contracts for non-worthy players. Dozens and dozens of useless players that we have spent gargantuan amounts of money on over the years, we sure don’t know how to pick ’em.

  2. Is this the guy from that show ” Animal Planet “?
Didn’t know he played football too !
