Bengals tender their three restricted free agents

Andrew Hawkins AP

The Bengals want to hang onto their restricted free agents, who aren’t terribly restricted.

The team announced they were extending tender offers to wide receivers Andrew Hawkins and Dane Sanzenbacher and linebacker Vincent Rey, giving them the right of first refusal.

“This is part of the yearly process to help us retain our core of good young players,” head coach Marvin Lewis said in a statement. “Andrew, Vinny and Dane have earned the opportunity to look at the market, but we want them back with us. They are certainly in our plans.”

All three players got the low-level RFA tenders of $1.431 million according to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, and since they were undrafted, the Bengals would get no compensation if they chose not to match an offer sheet. Of the group, Hawkins might intrigue some teams, but the Bengals didn’t want to spend the extra money to tender him at a higher level.

Vinney Rey will surely get a look from teams who need a LB. Dude is a stud and showed it over and over again last year. I’d hate to lose him though. Great player! Hawkins is coming off injury but played well later in the year. I do still want him back though. His YAC is crazy. He makes you miss for sure.

I would love to see the Redskins go after Hawkins. I think that he would be a good looking option across from Garcon.

I was really hoping that the 49ers would be able to bring Rey over to compete with Wilhoite for Navarro’s spot and play on ST, probably not going to happen now.

Little Hawk is a stud and some team that can utilize a Wes Welker type receiver would be wise to pay the $2M or so. Maybe a KC or Indy?

Everybody loves Hawk… but… let’s be honest… Hawkins is barely 5’7″ doesn’t always get separation, can’t out jump his opponents, and disappears in coverage.

After this exciting news Marvin probably said “It is what it is. We have to keep chopping wood and climbing that mountain and so forth. He he he he he. Keep moving forward. He he he he”

Dont believe me watch his interviews.

Sorry for the immature post I just cant stand the guy.

Hawk could be 6’4″ and jump a country mile, but still wouldn’t be able to shake that dalton he has stuck to him. And therein lies the rub.

Andrew Hawkins is a Wes Welker type that averages less than half per game than 32 year old Wes Welker averaged in Denver.
