Eagles’ position on Vick hasn’t changed

Vick

At the Scouting Combine, Eagles G.M. Howie Roseman told Pro Football Talk on NBCSN that the team plans to follow the lead of quarterback Mike Vick. The free-agent-to-be wants to have a chance to start, and the Eagles will be ready to talk if/when he doesn’t find that opportunity.

In response to a new report from Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports that Vick will not be back with the Eagles under any circumstances, a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that, from the team’s perspective, nothing has changed in the 13 days since Roseman spoke on the matter.

It makes sense for the Eagles to leave a light on for Vick. He won the starting job after an extended competition with starter Nick Foles, and Matt Barkley didn’t show much as a rookie. Also, Vick knows the system, and while he can’t stay healthy as a starter, he’d be playing only if Foles gets injured.

While other factors including Vick’s salary expectations and willingness to accept being the backup in Philly after being the guy will influence his decision, the Eagles haven’t closed the door on Vick coming back. Nor should they.
