Jameel McClain headed to meet with Giants

Free agent linebacker Jameel McClain was in New York on Wednesday to meet with the Bills and he’s now on his way to meet with a team that calls itself New York while playing their games in New Jersey.

Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550 reports that McClain said that he was headed to meet with the Giants after wrapping up his visit with Buffalo. Those are the first two visits that McClain has made since being cut by the Ravens late last week.

The Giants are reportedly pushing to re-sign linebacker Jon Beason, who played well after they acquired him in a trade early last season. McClain could be an option if the team is unable to reach an agreement with Beason or they could be looking at him as an option for one of the other linebacking spots. Keith Rivers is set to become a free agent although restricted free agent-to-be Spencer Paysinger will likely return.

McClain is free to sign with any team at anytime, an advantage he’ll hold over other free agents until next Tuesday.

  1. Ugh. Hoping this is a depth signing. Please re-sign Beason – he completely changed our D the instant he stepped on the field.

  2. Beason played well, but let’s not get crazy…he is not irreplaceable. Besides, one could make an argument that Wil ill had a greater impact on the dfense when he returned than Beason. Hill was one of the highest ranked S in terms of tackles at the LOS and graded out strong in pass coverage.

Beason was good, but let’s not pretend he’s Patrick Willis.

  3. Beason was a beast.

    Would like this signing too.

Could it be time we build a decent LB core!!??

    GO BIG BLUE!!!

  4. He’s played outside LB so Giants might sign him and Beason. Which would seriously upgrade the position. Though virtually any LB we sign would be an upgrade.

  5. When he’s done there he can head over to Florham Park and sign his new deal. He is best to reunite w/ Rex and a scheme he already knows.

  6. On whether it should be the NJ Giants, this implies a few more changes in the league:
    Arlington Cowboys
Maryland (or Landover) Redskins (or Potatoes)
    Orchard Park Bills
    Santa Clara 49ers
