Will Allen re-signs with Steelers

The Steelers won’t be cutting safety Troy Polamalu to ease their cap crunch and they won’t be saying goodbye to safety Will Allen either.

Allen’s agent Blake Baratz announced on Twitter that his client has re-signed with the Steelers.

Allen joined the Steelers last October after parting ways with the Cowboys and wound up seeing action in 12 games for Pittsburgh as a backup to Polamalu and Ryan Clark. He also played five games with Dallas, making him the rare player to get on the field in 17 regular season games in the same season.

He had 34 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble with Pittsburgh and it seems the Steelers enjoyed his work enough that they didn’t want to risk filling it with another player. There’s also a possibility that Clark will be moving on as a free agent with Allen or second-year player Shamarko Thomas taking on a bigger role.

Baratz didn’t share any terms of the deal, but Allen’s deal probably isn’t going to stretch the Steelers cap too much. It isn’t going to make it any smaller either, which leaves much work for General Manager Kevin Colbert.
