The Colts told linebacker Pat Angerer that he won’t be re-signed this offseason and they’ve already found his replacement at inside linebacker.
Colts owner Jim Irsay took to Twitter on Thursday morning to announce that the team had agreed to terms with a new member of the defense and a short time later he pulled the curtain back on the identity of the new Colt.
“Welcome to the Colts, D’Qwell!” Irsay wrote.
That’s D’Qwell Jackson, of course, and his arrival ends a brief tour around the league looking for a new team after being released by the Browns. Jackson will be reunited with last year’s Browns coach Rob Chudzinski, who took a job as a special assistant to head coach Chuck Pagano. Pagano also saw a lot of Jackson over the years when he was on the Ravens staff.
Jackson should plug into the Colts lineup next to Jerrell Freeman and should be an upgrade from what the Colts got from a variety of players filling the position in 2013. The Titans, Broncos and Dolphins also met with Jackson, but will have to look elsewhere for help at linebacker.
UPDATE 9:41 a.m. ET: PFT has learned it is a four-year deal worth $22 million with $11 million guaranteed, though some of that may be guaranteed for injury only.
