Wide receiver Greg Childs has continued working to return to the field after tearing both of his patellar tendons in both of his knees in August of 2012, but if he makes it back it will be with someone other than the Vikings.

The Vikings announced Thursday that they have released Childs and defensive tackle Letroy Guion. Childs was a rookie when he suffered the dual knee injuries and suffered a previous patellar tendon injury while at Arkansas, leaving the former fourth-round pick with long odds of ever playing in an NFL game.

Guion was a fifth-round pick of the Vikings in 2008 and played 68 games for the team over the last six years. He started all 28 games he played over the last two seasons, but only ranked sixth in total snaps on the defensive line last season. He was set to count $4.3 million against the cap and the Vikings will get most of that space back now that he’s off the roster.

Jared Allen, Everson Griffen and Kevin Williams are set to be free agents, which could mean a very different look on the defensive end in Minnesota next season.
