Sharper remains in jail, could soon be released on bail

Former NFL safety Darren Sharper, previously on bail for rape charges in California, has been jailed there since an arrest warrant making similar allegations was filed last week in Louisiana.  Unless formal charges are filed in Louisiana, Sharper could be back out of jail soon.

As explained by Brent Schrotenboer of USA Today, Judge Renee Korn described the question of whether Sharper should remain jailed in California for merely an arrest warrant in Louisiana an “extremely hard call.”

“The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office is working in close concert with New Orleans law enforcement and prosecutors . . . to unlawfully hold Mr. Sharper in custody,” attorney Blair Berk argued on Sharper’s behalf.

Judge Korn may release Sharper on bail next Thursday, if charges aren’t filed in Louisiana before then.

Attorney Gloria Allred, who represents one of the alleged California victims, told Schrotenboer that her client wants the California case to proceed before the Louisiana case.

In all, Sharper is suspected of nine rapes and 11 druggings in five different states, in a period of time covering only four months.

Throw away the key! There is no way this guy is not guilty. 11 counts? Disgusting

Judge Korn? I never knew they named judges after terrible 90’s rock bands. Next thing you know, Judge Limp Bizkit will be handling the appeal.

Would still rather have Shraper than Michael Sam on my Niners.

He never should have signed with Minnesota. Something happens when you put on that purple.

Greg Jennings goes from a quiet, hardworking player to a loudmouthed media wh*re.
Ryan Longwell turns into an arrogant jerk.
Brett Favre takes bitterness and spitefulness to a whole new level.
And Darren Sharper becomes a serial rapist (allegedly).

The next guy who signs with the Vikings will knock over a liquor store within six months, guaranteed.

I would like Sharper, Rae Carruth, Mark Chmura, Leonard Little, Lawrence Phillips, Donte Stallworth, Parish Cox, and Nate Webster on my ‘Hawks.

    GO HAWKS!!

How is Hernandez in jail without bond, but Sharper could be released soon? If I had to let one of these guys go, and trust them not to commit their crime again, I’d trust that Hernandez would keep his murderin’ in check… Serial rape is a sickness… Treat it like the plague…

3 months ago, what ex football player would you rather be? Aaron Hernandez or Darren Sharper.

Hernandez won’t be bothered much in prison. Sharper, on the other hand…

It’s almost as if he wanted to be caught. You just can’t get away with this crap for too long. You just can’t.

    Innocent until proven guilty
Any and all laying judgement of guilt may you never be charged with a crime. For if you are innocent but the public has tried you may you enjoy every day in incarceration.
This isn’t the 50’s whet guilt was the color of the skin.
    Allow Sharper his due

As a son, a big brother, and a husband – what Sharper has been accused of is disgusting to me. If guilty, he should be put in a room with the brothers and fathers of these women and whatever happens after 15 minutes is what it is. No need for prison – just 15 minutes of good hard justice. But — as a man who doesn’t know the facts, or Darren Sharper personally, and that lives in a country where everyone has the right to a fair trial – im gonna reserve my right to be a self-righteous prick and not judge a man for something i know nothing about. But like I’ve said – if he’s guilty – give him his 15 minutes and whatever happens, happens.

A case with national exposure potential? Of course Gloria Alred is representing somebody involved.

This guy has been accused of the same crime in several states. Why should bail be plausible?

  17. bobonitz says: Mar 8, 2014 9:01 AM

Does it look like he did it? Yes. But we have to remember he’s innocent until proven guilty.

  18. clashpoint says: Mar 8, 2014 9:16 AM

He’ll end up in protective custody if convicted. The bottom rung in prisons are the pedophiles, followed closely by rapists. If not, he’ll have a full dance card every shower time at the cell block prom.

Please stop posting Sharper updates on the Vikes page.
Because he spent 8 years in Green Bay and finished his career in New Orleans let them have first dibs on this scum’s escapades.

Question: why do a portion of Viking fans hate the Packers so much that they feel it necessary to make ignorant statements?
Answer: Because the Packers have 13 championships and too many Hall of Fame players to list here, while the Vikings are the poster team for futility.
My advice to Packer fans is don’t get down to those Viking fans’ level. Let them show how ignorant they are without responding in kind. For example, don’t post something like this:
If the NFL puts a team in Europe, that team will probably win the Super Bowl before the Vikings do.
    Heh heh.

  22. filthymcnasty1 says: Mar 8, 2014 10:55 AM

Sharper never once caused a problem in Green Bay. But then he signed with the Vikings, and his life went horribly wrong after that.

This is not unusual. Erin Henderson never used to drink and drive before putting that purple jersey on.

I think Jared Allen was the one free agent acquisition who dodged the Vikings curse.

  25. djstat says: Mar 8, 2014 12:30 PM

Why is this a Green Bay or Minnesotta issue? The team he played for and their fans have nothing to do with his crimes. He is a grown man. He has a right to a trial of his peers where he can defend himself agaisnt the crimes.

If he is guilty, which he certainly appears to be, never let him see the light of day again. If he is innocent, he will be and should be free.

I read some of the comments by the victims, their attorneys and sharper’s attorneys. Im not passing judgement until hes proven guilty, this one doesn’t pass the smell test. Sure sounds like the classic “hes rich oh all the sudden I don’t remember anything and even though I willingly went into his apartment got wasted drunk and took whatever drugs was handed to me I certainly didn’t consent to sex in my blackout haze”
