Report: Multiple teams showing interest in Alterraun Verner

AP

One of PFT’s top-rated free agent cornerbacks is reportedly drawing interest from multiple teams as the negotiating period begins.

According to Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean, the Jets, Vikings and Rams are teams “in the mix” for Titans cornerback Alterraun Verner, who is No. 10 on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100.

The 25-year-old Verner intercepted a career-high five passes for Tennessee in 2013. He has never missed a regular season game in four NFL campaigns.

The Rams’ reported interest in Verner might not be a major surprise, what with former Titans head coach Jeff Fisher now holding the same job in St. Louis.

Contracts with free agents cannot be offered or signed until Tuesday, the start of the new league year. However, teams are able to talk with players in the interim.

  1. The Vikings are the prototype team in the NFL.

Of course Alteraun Verner wants to come to us.

We are ten steps ahead of every team, and we will annihilate free agency.

  2. Verner is a very good corner who will be getting paid like a truly great corner. He won’t be great….but he’ll be very good.

He’s also a very intelligent player, a very high character guy, and the consummate team player. Regardless of whether somebody overpays to get him (which they almost certainly will)….AV is exactly the sort of player every coach would love to have on his team.

I’d love to see him return to the Titans…but I doubt it works out that way.

How are the broncos not on this list? They have more money to spend than almost any team, and they need defensive backs

They have less than 30M without reworking any deals, but have contracts coming up next year that need to be addressed.

  5. Tinbender really? he spelt would wud and thats it. everything else was fine. Anything the Vikings do or the viking fans do we get critized. I will tell you why the vikings are not the worst franchise in the nfl but one of the best franchises. Vikings playoff appearences since 1961- 46. Packers playoff appearences since 1921- 49. bears since 1922- 35. lions nobody knows.. Please tell me why do the bears have way less playoff games than the vikings when the bears have been in the nfl since 1922. And why do the packers only have 3 more playoff games than the vikes when they have been in the nfl way longer than the vikes. The vikings are a great historic franchise and nobody will accept that. We play in big games but I will admit we choke in those big games. Atleast we are one of the teams that get to play in big games. Great regular season team (kinda like manning) but we cant get past those nfc championships or get our first superbowl ring. Hopefully this has enlightened packer trolls alike.

  6. Who ever said the Vikes should sign Byrd is an idiot. He want to he the highest paid safety in the league and is not a top need for us. And he plays the same position as Harrison Smith. This is a signing that will never happen. You know nothing about football obviously. A realistic landing spot for Byrd would be Detroit.

In the past 20 seasons, only 3 NFC teams have NOT been to the Super Bowl. Washington, Detroit, and Minnesota. Green Bay was in the Super Bowl 3 times in that time frame, tied for the most appearances. Great franchises find a way into the Super Bowl every now and then. It’s difficult to call the Vikings “great”.

  8. Another key pickup for the Vikings along with Johnson. He fits perfectly into what Spielman looks for; he’s only 25, very productive, high character. He reminds me of a player the Vikings pickup up in Free Agency who had mild success in 9 years in MN, Antoine Winfield. Sign him and forget the position for 6 or more years.

Find a way? You mean like cheating to get into the post season?

Considering the Packers didn’t qualify in 2010 to go to the postseason because of the game against the Vikings where the NFL publicly admitted the score should have ended with the Vikings winning (gave the packers a touchdown they didn’t actually get, and took away one from the Vikings that they did get), thus pushing the Packers out the last seed? Is that the way?

No thanks. If our Super Bowl victory ever comes, I’ll take it without an asterisk, thank you.
