Antonio Cromartie says goodbye to the Jets

The Jets have told Antonio Cromartie he is being released.

Cromartie, who was viewed as a potential cap casualty, confirmed as much when he wrote a farewell message to the team and its fans on Twitter on Sunday afternoon.

“I would like 2 thank the Jets organization so much with helpin me grow as leader and a player. S/O 2 my teammates I wish u guys the best,” Cromartie wrote. “I would also like to give a big up to The Jets Fan base. Thank you for all the support thru my 4 yr career with you. Thank you again. It’s time for a new chapter in my life and now it’s time to let my lord and savior lead my steps every step of the way.”

The departure of Cromartie means the Jets will be big players in the free agent cornerback market. The Jets are believed to be very interested in signing Titans cornerback Alterraun Verner when free agency officially begins on Tuesday.

My fourth grade sister has better grammar skills than Antonio Cromartie.

If the plot for Home Alone ever happened in real life it would likely involve Cromartie forgetting one of his 8 kids.

That’s interesting but what does that have to do with spelling?

His life decisions may be poor and tends to get run over by players. But pass coverage has always been good

Come to Philly! It’s a great place to raise your 12 kids, and the 8 women you’ve had children with will love the King of Prussia Mall!

  19. icebowler says: Mar 9, 2014 3:00 PM

I’m just glad the Packers locked up Shields before the CB market gets really crazy.

  20. number1hawkfan says: Mar 9, 2014 3:01 PM

By your comments I assumed you were in fourth grade poet. I didn’t know you had a twin sister.

  21. realnflmaster says: Mar 9, 2014 3:02 PM

Thanks for your service. The Pats 1st string CB couldn’t even make the Jets 90 man training camp roster/

Let him test his free market value, then give the Jets a chance to resign him.

What do Travis Henry & Antonio Cromartie have in common?

    Right now, pretty much everything.

  26. whatjusthapped says: Mar 9, 2014 3:09 PM

He should sign with the Vikings and compare notes with Peterson. You have one guy who doesn’t even know the name of his kids combined with the other guy who didn’t even know his kid existed, at all, until the kid ended up in the hospital.

Cook could teach the both on the finer points of bitch slapping your ho and how to avoid getting hurt in NFL games by sitting in the local county jail.

  27. afce22 says: Mar 9, 2014 3:10 PM

never a huge fan of Cromartie, but that was a classy way to go.

and the guy learned to be a leader and hate the Pats. so he’s got some redeeming qualities

  28. nyjalleffingday says: Mar 9, 2014 3:16 PM

So I’m assuming this means he won’t be brought back at a reduced salary? Unfortunate. Best of luck in the future, Cro.

  29. haraldsigurdson says: Mar 9, 2014 3:28 PM

Viking Age website says Verner is set to sign somewhere immediately on Tuesday, but nobody knows where. Was letting Cromartie go an indication that the Jets have Verner locked up?

You SHOULD hate them considering they’ve spent the past dozen or so years slapping you around.

  35. cursedvikings1998 says: Mar 9, 2014 4:18 PM

Does anyone remember when the Jets were so bitterly disappointed that Nnamdi Asomugha didn’t sign with them?

    Good times, good times.

  38. baldy55 says: Mar 9, 2014 4:32 PM

  40. JackedUpSports says: Mar 9, 2014 5:02 PM

He makes me wanna throw up in my mouth.

  42. goldrush36 says: Mar 9, 2014 5:30 PM

The pack overpaying Shields just shy of 10 mil per is going to be the cause of a really crazy market. And yes when you give up 200+ to a 34 year old Boldin you are way way way overpaid

  43. sdchargerdeserter420 says: Mar 9, 2014 5:34 PM

Come back to the Chargers Antonio. You were one of the many AJ Smith casualties that ran the team into the ground.

  44. thelastpieceofcheese says: Mar 9, 2014 6:44 PM

So many negative comments and wise cracks about his kids; has anyone ever heard of him NOT taking care of his responsibilities to them?

  46. bleedgreentillidie says: Mar 9, 2014 7:14 PM

Dude provides for all 8 or 18 of his kids some of clowns don’t provide for the ONE kid you may have. This is a sad day in JET NATION my dude will be missed. Hopefully we can resign him before its too late.

  53. nyjfanz says: Mar 10, 2014 10:46 AM

I know Cro played hurt, but here’s what I saw last year: got beat deep, poor tackling – but was very good at disguising pass interference moves resulting in no calls. In my opinion, there’s better talent available out there, let’s move on.
