One of the top centers available in free agency has been linked to a club in need of offensive line help.

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports the Giants have shown “interest” in Saints center Brian de la Puente.

The 28-year-old de la Puente is No. 87 on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100. He has started 44 games in the last three seasons for New Orleans.

David Baas, the Giants’ starting center in 2013, is slated to make $4.75 million in 2013, and the club wants to reduce his compensation. He appeared in just three games last season because of neck and knee injuries, and he will be 33 in September.

In five years, if you asked Reese what FA he signed with big money, it has to be David Baas, former center for the niners!
How or what Reese saw, most giant fans don’t knoe, YET!
Get a lunch bag center like Ohara, and then cut this cap money eating, injury prone out of here!

Awesome news, definitely an upgrade over Baas. Just wish he was a little bit younger

As a saints fan, PLEASE TAKE HIM!! He was responsible for numerous breakdowns and allowing defenders to get push up the middle.

DLP had a bad year, but he is still a good player. He’s also a scrapper which is a great quality to have in a center. But the Saints have a promising young guy in Tim Lelito who will probably be taking that job over.

This guy too old and not of high quality, not like Alex mac

Signing FA center worked out so well the last time…get
young and build from the draft. If this guy was with te money the Saints would pay him.

Jim Cordle was just strating to show up when he got injured, and will be kept as a depth player.
The other possible move would be Boothe who when asked, seems to do a good job, though I don’t know his rating.
Coughlin does NOT like putting a rookie st the C position, so I do expect a FA signing, then picking up another versatale guard in the draft.
    4pm Tuesday will know more.

DeLa Puente was made a workable center by Sean Payton’s offensive scheme. Eli will get pummeled with this guy at center. Check his resume. Been around.

As a Saints fan I have to say that I won’t be sad to see him go, He was the worst offensive lineman we had besides Charles Brown, who by the way was downright awful…

Dont get too excited giants fans…this guys junk

Would be a solid signing. Saints coaching staff are very talented at coaching players to their potential allowing them to be very good off linemen.

And here comes another bad season if this is true. The best center available was tendered an offer. Look towards the draft to build for the future. Ryan Nassib will need a fresh young line because Eli is going to get hurt playing behind more blocking like last year.

I do not want Eli to get hurt. He is very valuable.
