McDonald jumps from Seattle to Tampa

With defensive end Michael Bennett staying in Seattle, it became a foregone conclusion that defensive tackle Clinton McDonald would be leaving.

Per a league source, McDonald has agreed to terms with the Buccaneers, joining new coach Lovie Smith’s 4-3/Tampa Two attack.

Acquired via trade with the Bengals in 2011, the 27-year-old McDonald had 5.5 sacks last season, with only one start.  He also started in Super Bowl XLVIII.

McDonald apparently will be joined by former Bengals defensive end Michael Johnson, who reportedly will be signing a big-money deal with the Bucs.

Bucs are loading up on defense. Their on my radar now as a possible option in my fantasy league.

    The joke is on him.

Wait till he finds out that instead of a COSTCO size supply of PEDs their locker room is full of MRSA.

After being average for a couple years and cut at the beginning of the year, McDonald was re-signed a few weeks later and was amazing depth on the D-line. I’m happy he got a payday, he earned it this year.

Clinton McDonald has a motor that never stops. He’s a fine rotational player on the defensive line. I am sorry he’s not here in Seattle anymore, but I’m very happy for him finding success in getting a well-deserved contract and pay raise elsewhere.

    The Seahawks suck!

    Skol Vikings.

Great part of a rotation. Depending on the money and the role he’s given, this could be a very solid move for Tampa.

You just went from the best team that also happens to have the best jerseys to the worst team that also happens to have the worst jerseys (including arena league jerseys)

    Great player. Thanks Clinton!

Not a surprise. But then again, he was a ‘reclamation project’ for the Seahawks to begin with. Rotational depth that Pete and John will have no problem replacing (and may already have on the current roster in Scruggs, Williams, etc.).

    Tampa is becoming Cincy South…

McDonald isn’t going to blow up the run game, but he is pretty good as a situational pass rusher. I hope he continues to do well in Tampa.

The bucs just got a good player. I was hoping he would stay I truly believe he could become one of the better DT’s in the league.

  25. thebirdofprey2 says: Mar 11, 2014 6:00 PM

Wow that is a great signing by the Bucs. McDonald got cut came back with an attitude and a nastiness to him.

I think he is the definition of nickel DT, I think this helps McCoy big time because on passing downs you just can’t double team him.

What was the deal for though?
