Raiders enter the Darrelle Revis hunt now

It wouldn’t be an offseason without a good Darrelle Revis sweepstakes, and we may now have one.

According to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Raiders have emerged as a possibility to deal for the Buccaneers cornerback, along with the Browns.

The Raiders certainly have motive and opportunity, with plenty of cap space and plenty of room for impact defenders.

What’s not as clear is if Revis is interested in joining them, which could bog down any potential deal, as that $16 million salary is just sitting there.

If nothing else, the Buccaneers might have a bit of leverage, as two desperate teams get involved for a player they can wave to their fanbase to prove that they’re serious.

You know what? I think this is a ploy by the Bucs. Like Darrelle, take a pay cut or its Oakland or Cleveland. Pretty serious threat right there.

Commitment to LOLence. The Raiders will never win a Superbowl again in Oakland. Or Los Angeles. Or London. Or whereever they eventually move to. #TampaBayEast

    U wish raider fans!

He’s coming to cleveland to win a championship!

It all comes down to how serious this guy is at being a pro and helping lead a team to success. If he just wants to be a joyrider, that is not worth it.

  10. jerruhjones says: Mar 11, 2014 1:59 PM

Oakland will over pay, Cleveland will not.

I don’t buy this for one second. Reggie isn’t that stupid.

Time to bring Revis Island to Oaktown!!!!

  13. flash1283 says: Mar 11, 2014 2:02 PM

This is the place he belongs. It’s all about the money with this guy so go to the worst organization in the NFL get your money and disappear.

Desperate teams call for desperate measures…

  15. radrntn says: Mar 11, 2014 2:05 PM

“if” he would want to join the raiders….i mean after all he is playing for the bucs.

  16. alonzo9mg says: Mar 11, 2014 2:08 PM

Doubt it will happen, but a Revis and Haden backfield? Browns might actually be scary.

  17. humb0lt says: Mar 11, 2014 2:09 PM

Free agents who want to win sign with franchises that are capable of winning. This excludes the Raiders.

As Michael Scott would say: “No, God! , No, Please God!, No… NO!… GOD!… NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Nice picture. Doesn’t get more intimidating than a grown man wearing a dumb costume.

  20. wayneflores says: Mar 11, 2014 2:15 PM

Wait until cut. Cheaper. Don’t want to pay that much for 1 player. Lots of needs, complete Defensive rebuild required ..once cut his price will go down.

  21. raiderlyfe510 says: Mar 11, 2014 2:16 PM

    Hererin lies the problem..

With needs at QB,RB,WR,OT,G,DE,DT,LB,FS, and CB. You can’t afford to trade any draft picks, and you have no players to trade. Only way this trade will make sense is in the NBA.

  22. Iain says: Mar 11, 2014 2:16 PM

If I were Oakland I’d trade for him (day 3 pick at this point), convert year 1 salary to bonus and restructure to guarantee years 2 and 3 with rolling guarantee for following year as of week 1 of each season.

If I’m Revis I probably take that deal because the CB market isn’t overtaking the contract any time soon and I’m all about the $$$ because my play speaks for itself.

  23. thatstinks says: Mar 11, 2014 2:17 PM

Wow . Has the word not gotten out ? We don’t do overpriced me guys anymore . Cash your bloated check elsewhere baby !

    LOL, they would.

  25. stoogy says: Mar 11, 2014 2:21 PM

I do not think people realize this is not the Raiders of the mid 2000’s. Reggie is a smart GM that will not over pay for one single player. He likes team players that will work hard to make in impact on and off the field. Either the Browns get him or the Raiders its either Hayden and Revis or Haden and Revis.

  26. thraiderskin says: Mar 11, 2014 2:33 PM

It would be a good pick up if he plays for 6-8 million, otherwise, no way… just keep drafting

  27. justwinsomeday says: Mar 11, 2014 2:36 PM

For 16MM, I’d rather pay Veldheer and Safford to man the left side. Heck while I’m at it, might as well draft Robinson or Matthews to man the other tackle position (esp if their next qb is a lefty….). Mix in Wiz and atleast the team would finally have one strength.

  28. bradybbgoat says: Mar 11, 2014 2:47 PM

Revis is a mercenary. He doesn’t care about winning, or locker room environment, or anything else. All that matters is how many zero’s you can add to the end of his check.

  29. listenup823 says: Mar 11, 2014 2:49 PM

This deal will work out just like Carson Palmer did..

  30. slick50ks says: Mar 11, 2014 3:23 PM

    Please keep Reggie!!!

We all need 2 automatic wins per year.

  31. peytonmanningsforehead says: Mar 11, 2014 4:00 PM

Free agents who want to win avoid the Chargers like the plague. Pathetic city, organization and the laughingstock of the NFL for decades.
The Raiders won’t pay Revis anywhere near that kind of money. Just wait for the Bucs to cut him (since there’s no way they can keep him) and sign him to a much more reasonable contract.

  32. ecade25 says: Mar 11, 2014 5:55 PM

First day of Free agency and we got worse today , WE lose JV and Houston and we Sign Saffold who is not better than JV and we lost are best running back last year Jennings but we resign Mchurt ..
