Ravens hang onto left tackle Eugene Monroe

Justin Tucker, Eugene Monroe AP

The wheel was spinning quickly, and if you didn’t get one, it’s time to wait for the draft.

The Ravens completed the left tackle market about 30 minutes after it opened, reaching a deal with their own guy, Eugene Monroe.

The deal was first reported by the NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala, best we can tell.

With Branden Albert heading to Miami, Jared Veldheer to Arizona and Rodger Saffold to Oakland, the four big names at the position are all locked up.

The Ravens had some extra pressure to keep Monroe, after trading a fourth- and a fifth-rounder last year to rent him from Jacksonville.

Now, they’ll have him for the long-term.

Excellent. Now we don’t look like fools for renting him for a year after giving up picks… ahem… Tampa Bay.

Finally! Great re-sign, now lets get some WR’s!

Maybe potentially Owen Daniels or Steve Smith? Maybe both?

But what about Michael Oher?! I watched The Blind Side so he should be signing a historic contract right about now!

Not too surprising, nor are the other moves, except for Veldheer…thought the Raiders would really try to keep him.

It’s still funny to me that PFF and generally most objective analysis had Monroe rated as the best tackle available, but Miami and Oakland paid more for their guys. Good to be a Ravens fan I guess.

Monroe has an offer from Baltimore on the table for $8-9M. He turned it down because his agent anticipated $10M+. And he ended up signing with Baltimore for $7.5M per year.

Point goes to the Baltimore Ravens.

Monroe will be a solid pass blocker again next season. Now its time to sure up our right tackle position, let oher walk and find a true run blocker.
If joe has time to throw the ball our offence will improve. Get another set of hand and we will be a contender again.

Ray Rice point goes to…..? Not women. Pathetic franchise. Funny how the fans think it’s great hut the players don’t stay.

Steal of FA. 5 years/$35M for a top 10 left tackle. Meanwhile Oakland, Miami and co continue to overpay.

    TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. jtbsteeler says: Mar 12, 2014 10:52 AM

Desperation. This guy anchored the worse oline in the league last year.

This is a win for the Steelers and Bungles.

That oline is still in shambles and in need of a new(better) LG, C and RT.

  27. jacktheraven says: Mar 12, 2014 4:36 PM

Ravens don’t let their good players leave in FA. If they are let go, it’s because they weren’t that great.
