Jets bring Giacomini from Seattle

Giacomini AP

Seahawks tackle Breno Giacomini won a Super Bowl ring at MetLife Stadium.  He’ll now earn his living there.

The Jets have announced that Giacomini has agreed to terms.  The right tackle immediately replaces Austin Howard, who left the Jets on Tuesday for the Raiders.

A six-year veteran, Giacomini missed seven regular-season games in 2013 due to injury.  He started all postseason games, including Super Bowl XLVIII.

It’s the fourth key contributor cut or lost by the Seahawks in two days.  Defensive tackle Clinton McDonald has signed with the Bucs, receiver Golden Tate has joined the Lions, and defensive end Chris Clemons has been cut.

Sad to see the Big Russian.

Jets got themselves a scrappy dirtbag, and I’ll miss him.

So Breno will protect Geno? 😁

  6. seatownballers says: Mar 12, 2014 9:07 PM

This guy is the definition of average. Has bad games, good games, and ok games. He has a mean streak, and causes opponents to have late penalties. Best of luck

  7. slugbaitspace says: Mar 12, 2014 9:09 PM

He used to drive me crazy with all those penalties, but he was much improved this past season.

He’s MUCH closer to home now. Which perhaps played a big factor in his decision.

Good luck, Breno…have fun protecting [enter quarterback name here]!

Good riddance! The Human Holding Penalty is the Jets problem now!

At least when he retires he will able say that he won a SB back in ’13-’14 before he got paid well to go play for a laughingstock.

  12. themackstrong says: Mar 12, 2014 9:15 PM

49er fan be happy it doesn’t make your teams job any easier because every player that was let go there is somebody behind him to take his job. Last year’s rookies Bowie and Bailey made it clear Breno wouldn’t be back.

That’s what happens in today’s NFL with a salary cap in place when you win the Super Bowl. You’d remember/know (depending on your age) if your team had won one in the last 20+ years, rather than bragging about ancient history all the time.

Seattle has pivotal players such as Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas who need to have their contracts extended as well as Russell Wilson and Russell Okung.

Therefore, however unfortunate, pricey role players needed to be let go to keep an eye on the team’s long-term interests in retaining the young nucleus.

If you’re dense enough to think that the Seahawks won’t still be the team to beat in the NFC next season then you haven’t been paying enough attention.

    It was 37 years actually…
Niners can get used to losing a year earlier than the Seahawks… good luck in Santa Clara.
Hope that continuing to have a running back pretending to be a quarterback continues to work for you.

  18. laxcoach37 says: Mar 12, 2014 9:30 PM

Funny, nothing but Niners And Seahawks fighting in this story. Where are the Jets Fans?… I guess they have come to the realization that they swapped mediocre RTs and nothing more need be said. So much for upgrades…

Giacomini’s awesome! What an amazing job by Schneider to accumulate this array of talent to complement the worlds greatest fans in any sport!

Good riddance! Giacomini sucks! His constant holding calls won’t be missed!

Well we made it to the playoffs 9 times in the last 14 years, that’s been pretty sweet, 2 superbowls in the last 8 years (1 victory and 1 hose job) And another interesting tidbit, the oldest team to never be involved in a tie game. You never that little bit of information may just win you $150 on trivia night at your local pub.

Oh, get off your high horse! Niners fans trash us in every article and you’re sitting there talking about being civil. We’re talking some trash, not stabbing each other.

Besides, neither parties have used personal attacks in this thread.

    Signed, Another Seattle fan.

Joey49er- relax bud. The 49ers will loose everybody when chokerneck takes 3/4s the cap space. All the seahawks are doing is upgrading every position and cutting aging players. I guess you wouldnt understand that we are 1 of the youngest teams in the nfl

Making up quotes now, are you? No worries, 49ers were all gung-ho about re-signing Dashon Goldson and then said bad things about him when he left.

You also wanted Percy Harvin but trashed him as soon as it was announced that the Seahawks had acquired him.

  25. louiedogg16 says: Mar 12, 2014 9:45 PM

Professional football is a game of schemes. Giacomini can be effective in the right scheme, like he was in Seattle. His value in most schemes is average, but he does add an X-factor with his Russian ‘tude.

  26. bfl8 says: Mar 12, 2014 9:46 PM

O-line needs improvements and depth. Should be number 1 on the to do list. Hopefully more moves to be made in FA or draft. 1A should be keeping that D-line strong and plenty of bodies to throw in the rotation. Jesse Williams will hopefully be healthy and get some run downs to be the stuffer with Mebane. Number 2, gotta get some weapons. Lock up bladwin, but still need some large targets, either WR or TE. Either way… In Schneider I trust!

  27. jshawaii22 says: Mar 12, 2014 9:46 PM

Breno was a great ‘guy’ to have around but not a good OT.

And, NO Seattle fans are real sorry to see him go. The OLine was the teams weak link and has been for the past few years, so we’ll get over it real fast.

1, 2, 3… OK, we’re over it. Next man up!

    js

  28. dfwhawkguy says: Mar 12, 2014 9:46 PM

Free at last! Free at last! No more Breno to stress me out every Sunday! Enjoy his penalties, boneheaded blown assignments and injuries. Notice how many times the Hawks ran left versus right– no trust…

  29. lurch61 says: Mar 12, 2014 9:50 PM

amazing how obnoxious seattle fans have become afte ONE Superbowl that followed 35+ years of obscurity. My god you would think they had a dynasty already….one year does NOT make a dynasty!

  30. meatcarroll says: Mar 12, 2014 9:52 PM

stealthhawk completely dominating this thread. LMAO Santa Clara!!!

  31. stampnhawk says: Mar 12, 2014 9:54 PM

Breno was at times a liability with his temper…if another team got under his skin. Good luck with that Jets and Ryan coaching up the defense.

But, a good guy to have when things got nasty in the trenches.

Like most player after achieving the SB Ring, time to set you and your family up for life, especially if you’re a middle of the road guy..the SB notoriety is a one year window usual.

Clemons loss bigger…if he didn’t get hurt in the same game as RG3 on that concrete surface at Fed Ex, I think Seattle goes onto SF for the NFCC, as they got no pressure on Matt Ryan the next week.

  32. thekingdave says: Mar 12, 2014 9:58 PM

    @stealthhawk

That’s funny. I’m not a Niners fan and could give two craps less about them. I swear, I’ve never seen such an inferiority complex or insecurity from a fan base that just won a title in any sport, ever.

So you admit you couldn’t beat us with both teams at full strength.

  35. stealthhawk says: Mar 12, 2014 10:06 PM

@thekingdave: If an inferiority complex is responding to the baseless nonsense you spouted off against my team then I suppose I have one.

My bad for not letting you get off scot-free for making stuff up.

Funny how you don’t even mention your favorite team but speak of inferiority complexes.

    Go home Dave.

  36. wrdtoyrmama says: Mar 12, 2014 10:17 PM

    To get to the signing…..

Pro Football Focus rated Giacomini a touch better than the tackle the Jets just lost in Howard.

If Idzik got Giacomini in the fold at a couple mil less a year than the Raiders got Howard, it would prove to be value.

  37. Matt B says: Mar 12, 2014 10:20 PM

Everyone but Tate who has left as a free agent has been easily replaceable. Good for them getting life-changing money.

OK U Got us 49er fans…..u beat us at ur home and we beat u at our home……And u barely beat the niners in the playoffs at ur house….we lost whitner and u lost half of ur starters…..we have 13 nfl draft pics and u guys are still compensating the Vikings…lol

  40. Matt B says: Mar 12, 2014 11:13 PM

Joey49er, half the starters? Tate and Breno are starters. Everyone else has been rotational and Tate is easily replaced by guys already on the roster.

  41. stepheninportland says: Mar 12, 2014 11:21 PM

@joey49er: Would you want to trade Giacomini straight across for your starting RT?

    That’s what I thought.

  42. swaggyy says: Mar 12, 2014 11:35 PM

Why are people thinking Seattle is losing all their players? All these guys were easily expendable and overpaid. Just more great decisions by John and Pete.

  43. swaggyy says: Mar 12, 2014 11:37 PM

Clemons, Bryant, Thurmond, McDonald. None were key starters. The knowledge of you people baffles me.

  44. c00pdawg says: Mar 13, 2014 3:03 AM

I liked Giacomini’s mean streak. You need a couple guys like that on an O-line. He is a pretty good RT, with Tom Cable as his coach. What the Jets won’t get in this transaction is the genius of Tom Cable.

  45. stevetoriginal says: Mar 13, 2014 12:44 PM
