Jon Beason re-signs with Giants

Early on Wednesday, there were reports that linebacker Jon Beason was one of the many veteran defensive players on the radar of the Broncos as they restock that side of the ball in free agency.

Beason won’t be sharing a locker room with Peyton Manning, though. He’ll be back with Eli Manning and the rest of the Giants instead.

Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network reports that Beason and the Giants agreed to terms on a contract that will keep Beason from leaving for Denver or anywhere else. The Giants acquired Beason in a trade with the Panthers early last season and their defensive turnaround coincided almost exactly with Beason being installed as the team’s starting middle linebacker.

The Giants were always expected to make a strong push for Beason, who chose to represent himself in negotiations this offseason, and his foray into the open market may have helped get a deal done once both sides knew what Beason’s value was on the open market. No details about the deal have been disclosed.

  1. Hopefully there will be no agents in Football in twenty years. Sports Agents and Sports Entertainment agencies have ruined sports from Professionals to Pee Wee.The love of the game is disappearing.

  2. Great news. Beason was more than just a run defender last year. It was clear that the defense had no “quarterback” until he arrived. He picked up the Fewell system immediately and made sure personnel was in the right spot to make plays. Look for Jon to get a “C” this season, especially if Tuck leaves.

  3. AWESOME! At the least he man’s the MLB position with experience, leadership, and plays with all he’s got.
    CT GIANT

  4. That’s big. He was a difference maker when he arrived last year. He hopefully remains healthy and reminds us of Antonio Pierce, which he is fully capable of.

  5. Happy that your opinion means as much to nothing as anything any troll says. The Giants aren’t done either. Just wait, now we took care of our LB holes, and some of the O-line holes. We took care of the RB position especially if Wilson returns as well. The draft hopefully we pick up that TE from North Carolina in the 1st round, then work on depth in all the other rounds!

  6. Anyone who denies this is a MAJOR resigning did not watch Giants football last year.

We will restock the D line in the draft, pick up insurance on the OL, and certainly target a solid tight end. Add in a corner, and we have addressed everything..

I hope all of you trolls don’t disappear when Eli comes back and shuts all of you up like he’s done his entire career.

  7. We needed to make this happen!! Good signing for the G-Men. Now if we can get Peanut Tillman on the cheap and another OL we’ll start to be back on the right track.

  8. NOW TO THE DRAFT ,ANTHONY BARR IS THE BEST PIC IN THE DRAFT FOR GIANTS WILL BE A TEN SACK A YEAR GUY.WATCH ANTHONY BARR HIGHLIGHTS GUY WOULD BE A TOP 5 PIC IF CLOWNEY WASNT
    IN THE DRAFT

  9. Best pic in the draft is ANTHONY BARR at giants pic.We need to replace tuck and this guy is lights out.i would move up 2 spots to get this guy because he will take a lot of pressure off the corners that we have.GETTING ANOTHONY BARR IS A MUST

  10. When O’brien Schofield (91 career tackles in 5 yrs) allegedly signed, I literally got sick to my stomach! The Beast Beason still hadn’t been signed and we gave a career bench warmer @ LB a deal that averaged $4 million/yr!!??? Karlos Dansby had 122 tackles last year alone and got a deal averaging $6 mill/yr. What’s wrong with that picture? I hope that was nothing more than poor business posturing to lure Jon back. With that said I’m satisfied again as long as that deal with Schofield goes from “on hold” to “non-existent”. Jennings and Schwartz pick ups I love. Get right Reese!!! Lets go!

  11. All tactics to get the beast Beason back worked. We can still pick up the best center in the draft second round .LIKE I SAID ANTHONY BARR BEST PLAYER AROUND GIANTS 1 ST PIC AND NOT GOOD REPLACEMENT FOR TUCK BUT GREAT REPLACEMENT.
