Lions not hunting for big game, turn sights to Hynocerous

Given the top-heavy nature of their salary cap situation, the Lions appear to be working the fringes of the free agent market.

According to Tim Twentyman of the team’s official website, they’re hosting former Cowboys center Phil Costa today and Giants fullback Henry Hynoski Thursday.

Costa could help fill in on the line after the release of Leroy Harris. Hynoski, who wasn’t tendered as a restricted free agent, would offer something the Lions lack, a true thumper in the backfield.

After investing in Reggie Bush last offseason and keeping running back Joique Bell off the market with an extension, the Lions obviously want to offer some protection for the backfield under new coach Jim Caldwell.

Another body to crowd the backfield, that’s just great. I’m so excited.

Surprised the Lions didn’t try to add a real safety or cornerback. Pretty clear who their going to select with their first pick in the draft.

Get Golden Tate. He is the perfect compliment to Calvin. It’s not sexy but there’s no need to try and overpay some free agent. We still have to extend Nick Fairley next season. Use the draft to fill the safety hole.

You must have been watching the Giants last season when he was hurt and not playing. He has always gone by that nickname.

Hynocerous?!? I LOVE it. If it wasn’t his nickname before, then it oughta be now. I love this acquisition for that reason alone. I will enjoy watching him, and I hope he does some serious thumping!

Anyone not a Giants fan who is unsure of the nickname, just look up his TD dance on YouTube – complete with the horn :)

I thought the headline was pretty good. Get a sense of humor guys. And yes, that is his real nickname. Wish he could’ve stayed a Giant, but no room for two fbs
