After the release of Carlos Rogers earlier this week, the San Francisco 49ers are continuing to explore options at the cornerback position.

According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, the 49ers will host former Minnesota Vikings cornerback Chris Cook for a visit on Thursday.

San Francisco released Rogers on Monday and Tarell Brown remains a free agent. While the team did re-sign Eric Wright on Tuesday, the team is still looking to solidify the position. At 6-foot-2, 212 pounds, Cook is a bigger corner than anyone else on the 49ers’ roster.

As San Francisco and Seattle have constantly tried to “one-up” each other over the past few seasons, the 49ers could view Cook as a possible fit to mirror their division rival’s larger, physical cornerbacks.

Cook started 11 of 12 games player for the Minnesota Vikings last season. He racked up 47 tackles but did not record an interception and had only two passes defensed on the year.
