Veldheer’s contract has $10.5 million fully guaranteed on signing

The Raiders didn’t make a competitive offer for tackle Jared Veldheer because they didn’t envision him to be a high-end left tackle.  Instead, they see him as a right tackle.

The Cardinals definitely see him as a left tackle.

PFT has obtained full details regarding the five-year, $35 million contract.  Veldheer received $6.25 million to sign and a fully-guaranteed base salary of $1.25 million in 2014.  He has $3 million in 2015 base salary fully guaranteed, with another $3 million guaranteed for injury only.  That $3 million becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2015 league year.  Another $3.5 million in 2016 base salary is guaranteed for injury only; it becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2016 league year.

That’s a total of $10.5 million in fully guaranteed on signing, with another $6.5 million guaranteed for injury only.

The full base salary in 2016 is $6.5 million.  Ditto for 2107 and 2018.  Each year from 2014 through 2017, Veldheer can earn up to $500,000 for per-game active roster bonuses of $31,250 each.

The contract also has $2.5 million in escalators and a $500,000 annual Pro Bowl bonus.

Barring horrible performances (and the bar is very low at left tackle in Arizona), Veldheer will likely play under the contract for three years.  The last two will hinge on various factors.

The coolest thing about this team friendly deal is that his 2014 salary cap figure is ridiculously low.

    Great job by Keim.

R McKenzie does not have a clue sounds like damage control as all the good players abandon ship
to get off the sinking SS McKenzie.

Welcome to the Valley of the Sun, Jared. Carson Palmer is glad to have you protecting his “blind side” again.

Raiders offered almost same exact deal and him and his “agent” his brother both rebuffed it, jumped ship and acted like the raiders tried to low ball him. He wanted to leave Oakland and I say good riddance!!

Karlos Dansby is a better overall talent and they let him walk. Seems like a wash. Good move for that offense, though. Cooper coming back, too…now get a RB and you’ll be on to something.

Why are all my fellow Raider fans so upset, Veldheer and Houston may have been two of the Raiders better players but overall they are average players at best.
it just speaks to the Raiders lack of talent that fans would be upset at losing two average players

I heard that MJD might sign in AZ….two different agents heard rumblings… They have been wrong before

What injury did he have last year? Triceps tear or something. Maybe RM knows a something about this that others don’t? We’ll see.

Vehldeer was a good player in Oakland. He got huge last offseason, then tore his triceps. I don’t know if McKenzie knew something, but you don’t trash a franchise LT when the franchise tag is available. I wish him all the best in AZ, and hope Oakland can throw a pass rusher at him next season when they play.

I think your fellow fade fans are upset that your moron of a GM let him go and signed a considerably less talented LT for more money.

At least the ones with anything in the brainpan are, which admittedly is very few.

The last time the KC Chokes won a playoff game, Joe Montana was the quaterback. Joe Montana is 57. Joe is not coming back.

I have to laugh! Raiders have yet AGAIN proven themselves to be the arm pit of professional sports. My, my, my. And where are all my Nationettes that boldly proclaimed Big Reg would quickly turn you into a power????

Man, how do you wear your gear? The whole world is laughing!
