Ben Tate visiting Browns

One of the top backs in free agency is visiting a team in need of some backfield punch.

The Browns met with Texans tailback Ben Tate on Thursday night, multiple media outlets reported. Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer first reported Tate was visiting the club.

The No. 1 back and No. 40 overall player in PFT’s free agent rankings, the 25-year-old Tate rushed for 771 yards and four TDs on 181 carries for Houston last season. He has gained 4.7 yards per carry in three NFL seasons of play. A second-round pick in 2010, Tate missed his first season with a broken ankle, then primarily backed up Arian Foster thereafter.

Were he to sign with the Browns, Tate would figure to have a prominent role in an offense currently lacking a lead back.

A great and tough RB. If Cleveland can address their QB issue, they look like a playoff team.

Ben Tate is no Adrian “MVP” Peterson.

Ben Tate is getting zero love in free agency. Cleveland seems like a a perfect team to sign with. Their made for each other

Don’t excessively overpay! See McFadden, Darren. Plus, the draft is loaded with 2nd-3rd round prospects. Get one cheap Brownies.

F’in do it browns! You are the laughing stock of the league. Change the game. Get a Tate, and draft Hill,Hyde, or Archer in the second round.
One draft away from contention with the aging ravens and Steelers, while the Bengals ran the division.
    Do something provocative

The Browns signed him to a five year deal.

This would be a great signing if the Browns could get him. They are a decent to good QB from being a contender.

From a Houstonian/ Texans fan/ season ticket holder who’s seen all of Tate’s Pro games, he’s a stud when he’s healthy, no way we can keep him sadly, he’ll be fun to watch no matter where he ends up.

Of course Tate is visiting the Browns. We all saw his name on the team draft board days ago. When’s Rex Grossman making his appearance?

Ben Tate, huh? Looks like Browns didn’t reveal their board…

Stillers and ratbird fans are scared. Browns are going to roll those clowns this year.

I think he would be a great addition to Cleveland. Gotta keep mack though and draft a right tackle

Ben Tate and Dion Lewis would be a pretty nice backfield.

I really like Tate and hope the Browns get him signed. However, can he be #1 RB and survive a full season? Unless we get some O-line beef and maybe a legitimate FB, I doubt he makes it past mid-season.

    What does Jim Brown think?

  19. wlouden77 says: Mar 14, 2014 4:17 PM

To the person that sais the Browns signed him to a 5 year contract. Where did you use that? Nothing has been reported anywhere, NOTHING at all.

While I want to see him come to Cleveland, I am nervous that he will end up going elsewhere.

Going by Dawg Pound Nation the two sides are close but can not agree on guaranteed money. That was posted yesterday.

  21. brownsdog says: Mar 15, 2014 8:51 AM

Give the man what he wants and get it done! You gotta be close in negotiations… give him some guaranteed $$$ and let’s move on to the OL and QB and WR2…
