In the early weeks of the 2011 season, it appeared that Kenny Britt was destined to become one of the best receivers in the game. With 136 receiving yards in Week One and 135 in Week Two, Britt was on his way.
And then an ACL tear killed Kenny. Or at least his career.
A Pacman-style slew of off-field incidents didn’t help matters. Even though Britt has matured, his game hasn’t recovered. Lost and forgotten in 2013, Britt caught 11 passes for 96 yards -- for the entire season.
He’s now a free agent, and the expectation is that he’ll take his time in selecting a new team. Per a league source, four or five franchises are interested.
The Redskins reportedly are keen on Kenny. The coach who drafted him in Tennessee, Jeff Fisher, currently runs the Rams -- and needs receivers.
Then there are the Patriots, who have developed a pipeline to Piscataway in recent years, gobbling up former Rutgers players. Britt played for Bill Belichick’s BFF at Rutgers, which would attract New England’s interest.
It nevertheless remains a buyer’s market for wideouts, which doesn’t bode well for a guy who hasn’t played well in three years.
