Hakeem Nicks visiting Colts, Panthers and Chargers in play

With Steve Smith out of the way in his hometown, it was easy to connect the dots from free agent wide receiver Hakeem Nicks to the Panthers.

But there might be a long set of dotted lines between Point A and Point B on that map.

Nicks told Josina Anderson of ESPN “I’m flying to Indy tonight. The plan is to meet with the Colts tomorrow.”

Nicks has also drawn interest from the Chargers, along with the Panthers. At one point, there were Instagram messages from his father suggesting a deal was done with the Panthers, but those were quickly retracted, saying nothing was final.

So if Panthers General Manager Dave Gettleman was hoping to head Nicks off at the free agent pass, he better hurry to the airport.

If Cam Newton digresses because of the lack of weapons this year David Gettlemen will be FIRED. Should of never let go of Steve Smith. Smh

the chargers need to invest on the defense, o-line. It doesn’t make sense to bring nick in. hello!!!

Hindsight is always 20/20, but I would have signed Golden Tate.

The Colts seem to have a talent for drafting receivers who can play ball, so I’d think an iffy (injuries, maybe drop-off) Nicks would just be icing, not a huge deal.

Colts will offer more money than the Panthers. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a Colt by tomorrow. Panthers screwing up so far this offseason…but there’s still plenty of time to turn it around.

I’m good with Nicks signing a 1 year “make good” deal as a Colts fan.

Reggie Wayne won’t stand for Nicks’ poor work ethic potentially rubbing off on Rogers and Brazill. If anything, he could make Nicks get his act together.

We still don’t have a starting C. Is Luck just going to hold the ball infront of him to simulate a snap like QBs do in practice(He was basically doing that with Satele anyway)?

“there were Instagram messages from his father suggesting a deal was done with the Panthers, but those were quickly retracted, saying nothing was final.”

This is hardly a surprise. Dad wants him to come back home to play. The biggest obstacle right now? The fact that the Colts have a better team.

“he better hurry to the airport.”

Right. DG made all these FA decisions in a big hurry (I think by the time the 49ers got to the airport after the playoff game he had decided to let every FA walk except Derek Anderson, Garry Williams and Byron Bell). But he hasn’t hurried to do anything since. I think we’re the only team left in the NFL that hasn’t signed a starting free agent yet. I think he is banking on Charlotte being Nicks’s home town to be the deal-sealer. Either that or DG intends to spend the entire draft taking wide receivers.
