Ihedigbo expected to sign with Lions

James Ihedigbo apparently will be making more than a visit to Detroit.

Per a league source, Ihedigbo is expected to sign with the Lions.

The move would reunite Ihedigbo, most recently a Raven, with former Ravens defensive backs coach Teryl Austin.  Lions coach Jim Caldwell hired Ihedigbo to coordinate the defense.

A player with six years experience, Ihedigbo also has played for the Patriots and the Jets.  In 2013, he started all 16 regular-season games for the first time in his career.

Before free agency began, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press explained on PFT Live that he expects the Lions to target a receiver and safety in free agency.  With Golden Tate signed and Ihedigbo apparently next, mission accomplished.

Good value signing. Now they need to add a safety in the draft to learn under the 2 vets back there.

James played well last year. He’s a solid pickup and a hard working player.

Just what the Lions needed, another Personal Foul machine! Hey, I hear Brandon Merriweather might be available…

Lions coach Jim Caldwell hired Ihedigbo to coordinate the defense? That sounds like they are trying to circumvent the salary cap unless he has a job on the sidelines!

Ihedigbo is a smart player and plays tenacious. Not a personal foul machine. Gonna miss him but that’s why we drafted Elam for SS. Now we need a FS somewhere

He’ll struggle in practice at first, as he’s not used to seeing a QB throw the ball with velocity and normal trajectory.
