The Redskins added a couple of players to their defense on Thursday.

Linebacker Darryl Sharpton and defensive lineman Clifton Geathers have both signed with the team.

As we tweeted earlier, Sharpton signed a one-year deal in Washington that is worth up to $2 million. He’s started 13 games at inside linebacker for the Texans over the last two years when Brian Cushing was injured, picking up 115 tackles and an interception. He’ll join the recently re-signed Perry Riley and Keenan Robinson on the depth chart and could compete for a starting job depending on what the rest of the offseason brings.

Adam Caplan of ESPN reported the news of Geathers’ signing. He leaves the Eagles for their NFC East rivals after one year that saw him play in every game and record 13 tackles for the division champs. He played for the Colts in 2012, recording his only career sack, and has also spent time with the Seahawks, Dolphins and Cowboys. He’ll likely provide depth, but, again, that will depend on who else the Redskins bring into the organization.
