Report: Anthony Spencer to visit Redskins

Micro-fracture knee surgery ended Anthony Spencer’s 2013 after just one game. Despite still recovering from the surgery, teams are starting to kick the tires on Spencer on the free agent market.

According to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News, the Washington Redskins are set to host Spencer for a visit on Thursday.

Spencer was given the franchise tag by the Cowboys in each of the last two seasons. He posted a career-best 11 sacks in 2012 before being tagged again by Dallas. As is the concern of any player playing under the franchise tag, Spencer suffered a serious injury that has now left him without the security a long-term deal would have delivered. Whatever team elects to sign Spencer this year certainly won’t give him a large contract with the concerns over his knee.

Spencer hoped to be back to full strength by February, but it appears he may not be completely healthy even before the start of training camps.

Spencer took Jerry Jones for a ride last year. Only played a few plays in one game and was under the pricey franchise tag.

The big question is how healthy is he really?

I’d like to see Spence and Ryan Kerrigan on the same team, both Purdue boilermakers.

I know there’s no loyalty in Pro sports, but after stealing $10 million from the Cowboys last year, signing with Washington would be the ultimate betrayal!!

This doesnt make any sense to me. Is he being looked at as a backup OLB? or possibly a DE in the 3-4?

If the skins sign him it points to much more use of the 4-3 next year. Especially with Hatcher….
