Roman Harper visited with Panthers

The Panthers did a good job of disguising their interest in free agent tackle Anthony Collins as a replacement for the retired Jordan Gross and they also kept a visit from a potential replacement for Mike Mitchell under wraps.

Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that safety Roman Harper visited with the team on Wednesday. Harper reportedly left without a contract, but is expected to remain in contact with the team moving forward.

Harper and the Panthers are very familiar with one another after years of doing battle in the NFC South before the Saints cut Harper to create some cap space earlier this offseason. Harper is coming off a year marred by a knee injury and has slipped in recent years, but he looked good in the playoffs and his experience is likely a draw to the Panthers.

As is his expected price tag, which should be low enough to make him a good fit for a Panthers team that has several areas to address this offseason.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. From contending for a Super Bowl to cutting our best player and letting everyone else leave in a mere 2 months. And now we’re pulling this? I can’t.

Well if Harper is going to go to another team why not go to one in the NFC South? If he does that means Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham will get to abuse him twice a year. As much as I liked Harper his weakness always was and always will be covering TE’s.

Releasing Mike Mitchell for Roman Harper makes me want to hurl.

There really isn’t a player in the past 10 years that Panthers’ fans dislike more than Roman Harper.

This is a bounty-free organization. Keep the grey out of Charlotte, please… We have suffered enough this week.

He wouldn’t see the field barring injury and a Godfrey cut. He and Lester are locked in at those positions.

First we cut Steve Smith, then we try to sign the guy that should have been ejected and susupended for a blatant cheap shot in the end zone after Smith toasted him for a TD. Somebody please tell me I’m just having a very intense nightmare………
