Roman Harper visited with Panthers

The Panthers did a good job of disguising their interest in free agent tackle Anthony Collins as a replacement for the retired Jordan Gross and they also kept a visit from a potential replacement for Mike Mitchell under wraps.

Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that safety Roman Harper visited with the team on Wednesday. Harper reportedly left without a contract, but is expected to remain in contact with the team moving forward.

Harper and the Panthers are very familiar with one another after years of doing battle in the NFC South before the Saints cut Harper to create some cap space earlier this offseason. Harper is coming off a year marred by a knee injury and has slipped in recent years, but he looked good in the playoffs and his experience is likely a draw to the Panthers.

As is his expected price tag, which should be low enough to make him a good fit for a Panthers team that has several areas to address this offseason.
