APWide receiver Steve Smith said he still loves the Panthers organization despite what he feels was shabby treatment from General Manager Dave Gettleman at the end of his long run with the franchise, but that love does not extend onto the field of play.
Smith followed up his Wednesday night radio interview with an appearance on WFNZ with Frank Garcia and Mark Yarbro Thursday and reiterated both his distaste for the way the Panthers handled his departure and that he will always consider himself a member of the Panther and Charlotte communities. He was then asked about the possibility of playing against the Panthers in the future. The man who introduced “Ice up, son” to the lexicon last season didn’t disappoint with his answer.
“I want to make sure that whatever team I go to, they’re going to get the best, in shape 35-year-old guy they can get. If that happens to run through Bank of America Stadium, put your goggles on cause there’s going to be blood and guts everywhere,” Smith said.
Smith said that now that everything is settled, he’s going to have a “cup of coffee and relax” before figuring out what his next step might be. The Ravens have already been pegged as a favorite to land Smith and while they don’t play in Charlotte, Smith might enjoy knowing they do host Carolina next season.
Steve Smith is the man
such a little Napolean
He’ll be a Raven, by midnight.
nonamechange
AFCN !!!
#justsay’n
You’ll have 3 catches for 22 yards.
Does he mean 3D goggles?
I need to upgrade my TV…this is going to be better than 300.
Always admired from a far, but starting to really like this cat! Not a high need for us, but would love that passion in Viking Purple!
make this a SNF game
No Steve, they are talking about a game on sunday, not your behavior during a panthers’ practice.
Ah yes, Steve Smith has always been the shy, reticent type.
Roger Goodel suspended him indefinitely for bullying after hearing these comments.
All bark, no bite.
The curse of Steve Smith has begun. Carolina is gonna take a step back next year…
Watch out for Luke Kuechly
Al Davis would make this man a Raider. And the Nation would wholeheartedly approve and welcome 89 with open arms. Can McKenzie even get Smith’s agent to accept a phone call?
I’d like Steve Smith in Tampa, he’d finally get to play with another top WR. I know this isn’t the Smith of a few years ago, but he’s still very valuable as a 2 or 3.
Come to Tampa and play them twice!
I believe him too, can’t wait ima order the cable package that week!
Play him at CB and maybe Newton will instinctively throw him the ball.
I wouldn’t bet against him.
Wow, most of us have a cup of tea to relax, but steve smith is so high energy & intense, he needs coffee-wow, just wow!
I don’t know what he’d do all season, but he will definitely take it out on Carolina. He can still play, to put it mildly.
Come to Chicago! Marshall and Jeffrey on the outside and Steve in the slot….. Don’t forget Bennett at tight end and Forte in the backfield!
Steve Smith?
Yawn.
When you’re done you’re supposed to go out quiet with dignity and begin a new chapter; not go out immature and scared.
Oh it’s a lock!! #Black-n-Purple
old and washed up….another ex Derek mason past his prime.
Saddest day as a panthers fan for me was yesterday
Well, at least he wasn’t too graphic.
Love this guys mentality
The reason there is a Ravens fan in NYC is because they target players that kick serious ass like Steve Smith and stay away from bums like Hakeem Nicks who just wants a paycheck!
He’ll get sucker punches in. That’s what punks do.
Come to Detroit! Johnson and Tate on the outside and Steve in the slot…..Don’t forget Fauria at tight end and Bush in the backfield!
Come on down to NOLA Steve, Breesus will get you a ring and secure you a spot in Canton. Blood and Guts twice a year!
Another turd that will be in the pokie the week after he plays his last down of football.
Him and Dick Sherman head to head must be something to watch….can we get mics on these 2 if they face each other this year??
I dont see it happening, but I would love to see him in Dallas. Coaching up the young ones, breathing fire with Dez. It could work. Of course, he may not want to play on a team that has shown no indication of moving on from 8-8 middle of the road standing.
Jet’s just signed him, ooops I mean will sign him at 4 pm
Steve,
You need to wear the Black and Gold. Mr. Loomis will contact your agent shortly.
I have said here before and I will say it here again:
The NFL is a better place with Steve Smith in it.
#IceUpSon
By “blood and guts” he means the incident in the Panthers’ film room. Against his own teammate.
I feel like Steve Smith has grown wiser with age.
He’s just gonna enjoy some coffee and go with the flow.
ummm, now we know why they cut you; because you make everything about YOU!
BUCS! no taxes (check), beautiful weather (check), new regime (check), Panthers TWICE a year!! (check). So the new uni’s suck out loud, but you can cover them with “blood and guts”!! Come on down Stevie. GO BUCS!!
T.O. Part II
” I know I’m old, but I swear I’m still in great shape!”
Smith has always been the articulate, well spoken, even tempered, take the high road, kind of guy…
I’ve never liked him. Has nothing to do with talent. This feels like a season where he gets injured in preseason and misses most of season.
Lafell is a free agent and Smith cut, who is Cam gonna throw to??
Everyone has a plan……tell they get punched in the mouth. Don’t by the hype. You’ll be disappointed.
“Ice up son”……this is a business!!
Sincerely
Carolina Panthers
HOF
Since 92% of the posters on this website are also 5’9″, they feel the need to rip on Steve Smith for being one of the greatest football players of the last decade.
get a life people. dude can ball
If Smith is cut, then they must have Nicks in the bag huh?
There will be no blood or guts. It isn’t war. It’s football. Get over it.
Raiders no chance. He would never stoop that low!
What’s with all this hype over Steve Smith? Have we all time-traveled back to like 2008 when he was still good?
How soon will it be until he gets in a fight with his new teamates.
Good lord he has always been such an angry little man.
Not sure how the Bucs will ever win a game in those horrid uniforms.
IM THE BEST RECEIVER IN THE GAME, AND WHEN YOU UP AND LEAVE ME LIKE CAROLINA DID THAT’S THE RESULT YOU GONNA GET! DONT YOU EVER TALK ABOUT ME! DONT YOU EVER OPEN YOUR MOUTH ABOUT HOW YOU CUT ME! IM GONNA SHUT YOU UP FOR REAL!
Sound familiar?
he sounded like a sore loser haha
Sounds like Smith got his feelings hurt.
No need to make it personal, just plain business fool!
Washed up
Come on, people. He’s not being literal. He’s just talking trash like every one of us does every day.
Blood and guts.. Classic Smitty. Not as good as Ice Up Son, but great nonetheless.
Yes, go to Baltimore, where we only have to play against you once.
Steve Smith never shows up in big games.
His passion is awesome.
and probably none of it Smiff’s…..
Smiff will run his mouth for 6 months up to the game, then end up getting throw out early in the 1st Quarter, I’d wager.
You don’t kick the face of your franchise out the door like that. Gettleman is just focused on the immediate cost savings generated and hopes to pick up another player who can help, but in chopping Steve Smith he has sullied the team reputation. You don’t treat a warrior like that.
Dust yourself off Steve and thank you for your great service.
Done dude
Dudes still got it regardless of what the haters say here. Kinda reminds me of Andre Rison. Smaller, but great catch ability, hands of glue. Hope my Raiders grab him before some other team does.
Come to Detroit! Johnson and Tate on the outside and Steve in the slot…..Don’t forget Fauria at tight end and Bush in the backfield!
And don’t forget we play them in Charlotte this year……..
God-del should be happy how well Smith took to the anger management classes.
Blood and guts everywhere………I love it, dude’s got a sense of humor……unlike some of the PC yo-yo’s around here!
If this were 5 years ago I’d be all over this as a GM, but it is not… Smith is 35, slower and apparently still hasn’t grown all the way up. This is a business, money is the golden ticket in this game, so no hard feelings. He didn’t give the Panthers a “Hometown” discount when he signed his last contract, so why should he expect
to see love on his end? Business is business, life is not always a bowl of cherries, not everybody needs to love you…
Buck up and get back on that horse, even if it is a different one. There is a fool born every minute, someone will sign you.
So basically, playing against Steve Smith is going to be a lot like practicing with him.
please sign with the Niners. Crabtree, Bolden, Davis, and Smith.
Yeah, try covering those guys.
How can you not love this guy?
Absolutely stunned that they cut him. Wow.
Anthony Bright says hello.
Smith catches a 5 yard pass and jumps up screaming at everybody like he just caught the game winning TD in the SB. His act is old. Put a fork in him, he’s done! Too old and always injured. Ba Bye!
Love- Coach John Harbaugh, Ravens will be back.
I’d love this guy in Vikes uni.
I’ll never forget when he scored a sweet TD against us, and he sat down, and started rowing….classic even as a Viking fan, I respect this little dude…play’s like he’s 6’3….
I am going to get some Goggles and my pop corn ready
how do you not love this guy and the passion he plays with..
C’mon Zimmer, this is your kind of player, hire the man!!!
I would love to see him sign with my Bucs, not only because he has always been one of my favourite players (even though he killed my team on a few occasions) but that would be a dogfight I would like to see a couple times a year.
The Panthers put the blood and guts on themselves.
With these subtractions if they look like a team of self-infliction.
They’re done.
Overly emotional 35 year old receiver with a chip on his shoulder.
What could go wrong?
Smith takes it personal and I love it. That’s what makes him Steve Smith.
The Panties have been a joke for years, but this guy was solid and steady. I think he has some left in the tank.
If the Falcons needed a WR in the slot, I’d be willing to endorse a 1 year deal depending upon the cost.
