Raiders sign Tarell Brown

Tarell Brown is leaving the 49ers but staying in the Bay Area.

Brown, a cornerback who has played his entire seven-year career in San Francisco, has signed a contract with Oakland. The Raiders, who have been relatively quiet in free agency despite leading the league in salary cap space, announced the move on Friday.

The 29-year-old Brown played in 13 regular-season games for the 49ers last season, starting 10, and he also started all three playoff games. He’ll provide an upgrade to an Oakland secondary that struggled throughout the 2013 season.

Brown was the No. 68 player in our Free Agent Hot 100.

I was really hoping the 49ers would bring him back or that my Vikings would sign him.

Solid. Looking like defense should be better next year. Just need to get the Ninja signed now and maybe bring back sims and actually have some depth.

Hope Menelik Watson is ready to play LT.

And, whatever happened to Reggie’s first pick ever- OL Bergstrom? He had better be ready to go as well.

The Raiders love our players. There’s a lot of 49ers that went to the Raiders towards the end of their career: Ronnie Lott, Jerry Rice, Dana Stubblefield. I can keep going but I’m sure you all know this.

I have to say though not a bad signing for the Raiders, depending on what they payed him. $5 mill or under a year is what I’m thinking he should be getting. But you never know because the Raiders have a habit of over paying players. But all in all Raiders fans should be excited after that blunder with Saffold. Their defense looks vastly upgraded with the signings of Justin Tuck, LaMarr Woodley and Tarrell Brown.

Your a little slow there, Raiders also signed DL Antonio Smith Two-year, $9

  18. snnyjcbs says: Mar 14, 2014 8:00 PM

    One Year 3.5 million?

  19. arock49 says: Mar 14, 2014 8:01 PM

Gonna miss you T.Brown…. I have a feeling around October your gonna miss the Niners too….

  20. whyuknowdat says: Mar 14, 2014 8:03 PM

True that Pfromvv. Solid pick up by the Raiders. IF the other signings are any indication, it’s prob a 2-3 year deal.

  21. oaktown49er says: Mar 14, 2014 8:04 PM

The word out of SF during the season was that they offered Brown the same deal Tramaine Brock got. 4 years 16 mil, 7 mil guaranteed. So much for testing the market.

humb0lt apparently didn’t watch San Diego’s secondary last season. One good safety and a pile of garbage corners.

Niners have cully, Brock, and will pick up a nice cb in the draft…I ain’t worried bout nuffin.

  24. blackbeard43 says: Mar 14, 2014 8:29 PM

Gotta address the offense too. Lord knows we need help there as well!

  25. babygaga19 says: Mar 14, 2014 8:30 PM

I cant tell ya how impressed I am with the job Big Reg has done with free agency. Man, top talent and He Saved Money! So like, what do you men think? Home Field Advantage?

Dig it America, the Raiders are Back Baby!

  26. norcalmafia says: Mar 14, 2014 8:30 PM

Solid pick up by the Raiders..Brown is a solid corner don’t understand why we let him go..

  27. 49forthewin says: Mar 14, 2014 8:37 PM

At least he still has a good chance at attending a play off game. It’s only like a 30 minute drive to the new Levi stadium.

  28. 49erfan44 says: Mar 14, 2014 8:39 PM

Niners vs Raiders in Oakland this year. And then T. Brown will regret this decision.

  29. thegreatgabbert says: Mar 14, 2014 8:52 PM

Chris Cook has way more upside. Will be the better player going forward. He was stuck in a bad situation.

  30. jvibottomline says: Mar 14, 2014 8:54 PM

    Overpaying for an average player

  31. themackstrong says: Mar 14, 2014 9:10 PM

And the 49ers signed Chris Cook. Nice trade off!

  32. wininer says: Mar 14, 2014 9:33 PM

Brown is a good db. Good pick up for the Raiders.

  33. theclink12 says: Mar 14, 2014 10:26 PM

    Tarell Brown > Chris Cook

  34. russellwilsonismymvp says: Mar 14, 2014 10:50 PM

The paper Brown signed his new contract on has more depth than the niners secondary. Good luck with that.

  35. pantherpro says: Mar 14, 2014 11:00 PM

Going from the. Studs of the bay to trash in less than 20 miles!

Humbolt is back!!!!!!! One of the four Chargers fans has spoken. Bwahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

  37. kambujadesa says: Mar 15, 2014 12:20 AM

What are you guys smoking? He is NOT a decent DB. He has been burned so many times! I am glad the Niners let him walk. GO watch the Superbowl film…he and Culiver…garbage.

Brock is the only one worth keeping and Im glad we kept Wright. He has potential if he gets his head straight.

Carlos was good for us for 1.5 years…sad but NOT sad to see him leave.

  38. babygaga19 says: Mar 15, 2014 12:19 PM

Im calling it right now! Raiders are going 13-3 with a deep playoff run. Anybody want to fight me?

    Goooooooooo RAIDERS!

  39. El Pollo Loco says: Mar 15, 2014 1:50 PM

The raiders should relocate to one of the local high school fields I’m sire they’re much nicer than the Oakland Alameda County correctional facility
