The Rams and the unrestricted free agent linebacker came to terms Thursday on a two-year contract valued at as much as $3.5 million, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Dunbar, who turned 29 on Thursday, recorded 39 tackles in 12 games (10 starts) in 2013 for the Rams, for whom he plays outside linebacker. He played 425 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. The Rams released him on September 3 after he was suspended four games for a violation of the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances, then re-signed him on October 1.

Dunbar (6-0, 226) has started 26 regular season games in the last two seasons for St. Louis. A seventh-year pro from Boston College, Dunbar played four seasons for the Saints (2008-2011) before joining the Rams in April 2012.
