Shaun Hill visiting Rams, who are looking for clipboard-holder

The Rams are currently the vacant chair in backup-quarterback-musical-chairs, but that might not last long.

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Rams are hosting Lions free agent Shaun Hill Monday.

If signed, Hill would replace Kellen Clemens, who left to replace Charlie Whitehurst in San Diego after Whitehurst went to Tennessee to replace Ryan Fitzpatrick.

If there’s any irony left in the world, Fitzpatrick would be on a plane to Detroit right now.

Hill, 34, has spent the last four years with the Lions, after stints in Minnesota and San Francisco.

It seems like they could make a “Weekend at Bernie’s IV” with the stiff being a back-up QB who’s wearing shades on the sidelines while holding a clipboard.

Shaun Hill made my Pro Bowl list last year as a CH.

Remember that time the music stopped and three of the quarterbacks were holding the wrong clipboards? That was funny, they still talk about it.

No need to insult the man or the backup QB position. If Kyle orton was a a shred more accurate dallas would’ve been in the playoffs, several starting qb’s started out as backups for years. Calling them “clipboard-holder”, while easy to understand why you said it, is inadvertently insulting to how important the position can be.

Really one of the best backup qbs in the NFL.
Wish the BEars would go after him

My Rams are doing everything BUT trying to get DBs.. They do know we need cornerbacks, linebackers, & safeties ( or a safety if you like T. j.. ) …

So why are they getting DE, DT, QBs,…? I’m cool with the OL & WR visits…

DBs DBs DBs DBs DBs Jeff & Les.!!!

Looks like we can’t afford to keep ’em. Whichever team gets Hill, they’ve go the best backup in the league. Go Lions!

  8. believeland2014 says: Mar 16, 2014 7:21 PM

I’m available if you need a clipboard holder lol

  9. tinbender2000 says: Mar 16, 2014 7:30 PM

I’d take Fitzpatrick over Whitehurst any day.

Clipboard holder? Over-qualified for the Dallas back-up job.

I wish the Vikings would re-sign him (he may be able to start lol)… I have had the pleasure to talk / drink with many nfl players over the last 2o years and he is by far my favorite! I know he has never been a star but what a humble nfl player and fun guy! Come back to Minnesota buddy!

With Sam Bradford at QB, Hill is guaranteed to see playing time in the regular season

I’m a Vikings fan, and have always admired Shaun Hill’s play both at the 49ers and the Lions.

I really wish him the best whoever he signs for this season.

And somehow Tebow can’t find a backup job….he’s not starter but he’s better than some of these bums…Real reason is because offensive coordinators Rent creative enough to have a offense to where he can move the ball and owners are afraid of his popularity and pressure to play him…. Really Charlie Whitehurst? Clemens?

One of my favorite and most underrated Terps ever.

  16. briank1ne says: Mar 16, 2014 8:31 PM

He threw I think 13 touchdowns to Vernon Davis in one season when he was at San Fran. I like him.

  17. rajbais says: Mar 16, 2014 8:33 PM

Why isn’t Bradford the clipboard holder?

Don’t you need to rack up decent stats before you reach garbage time?

  18. goldrush36 says: Mar 16, 2014 8:53 PM

@briank1ne um no he didn’t. I liked hill but that was the year Smith took back over for the rest of the year in the same game Crabtree ended the holdout and made his debut. Hill will make the rams a better team though.

Good. Connor Shaw, welcome to Detroit.

There’s a lot that goes on behind the cameras on a football team. There are reasons that these gusy have long careers as a back-up, because most of them act as coaches and are able to relate better to the players than an actual coach.

    Good luck, Shaun.

  21. andreboy1 says: Mar 16, 2014 10:03 PM

This guy actually is one of the better back-ups in the league.

He played well for both SF and DET when called upon.

  22. broncostevenp says: Mar 16, 2014 10:05 PM

I don’t understand why no one gives this guy a shot to start? Yeah, I’m looking at you Jets, Raiders, texans, and Titans.

  23. 1pwrightt says: Mar 16, 2014 10:07 PM

Sanchez did a good job last year holding a clipboard. With his white beret in holding his hair back so he could see his clipboard showed true dedication.

  24. vikingspride says: Mar 16, 2014 10:44 PM

Why is this even news? If you are really looking for a hack QB “I have a deal for you! We have a guy that can through a duck better than anyone in the league. Your receivers are old, slow, and need hip replacement, No Problem! he cant overthrow them. Your fantasy Defense is playing your team and you desperately need points? Problem solved this guy is guaranteed to throw multiple interceptions in a game…… Yes sloppy play and bad choices are his calling card. Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you CHRISTIAN PONDER!”
“We will start the bidding at 1$…….. No Takers? How about you take him and our 1st round picks for the next three years. Anyone?”

  25. schetm says: Mar 16, 2014 10:54 PM

    Shaun is over the Hill.

  26. omeimontis says: Mar 16, 2014 11:04 PM

That is bad news for Rams fans. Looks like they are not drafting a quarterback in the first round if they need a backup. OTOH, they may be prepared to draft one and then cut Bradford, so they need a mentor for Manzile, Bortles, or Bridgewater.

  27. jtgush says: Mar 16, 2014 11:21 PM

have Bradford hold the damn thing and draft a good QB

  28. kd75 says: Mar 17, 2014 12:48 AM

Pay me $450,000 and I will hold a clipboard.

  29. garrison1981 says: Mar 17, 2014 2:02 AM

This is someone Lions need to keep! Best backup in league!

Not the Tebow talk again. Why on earth would a team waste time and energy to make a special package for a back up QB who can’t throw a friggin football? The back up is suppose ti come in and be as close to identical to the starter as possisoble. the timing, the playbook, the play calls shouldnt have to change all that much if your starting qb goes down. And as far as the popularity and pressure goes, winning makes all that go away. He’s just not a very good NFL qb plain and simple.
